Tire savers

When we get our motorhome out of storage, we have flat spots on the tires, so it's a bumpy ride until they get worked out. Apparently there are curved tire savers that can be put under the tires in storage to prevent these flat spots. Does anyone have advice on the best tire savers to use? Our Class C Four Winds is listed at 14,050 lbs, 4,600 on the front and 9,450 on the rear.

I don't mean to be minimizing this situation for you
But why spend money on an issue that works itself out after a couple of miles?

Do you remember those tires from the 1960s that always would flat-spot overnight?

And maybe another solution.....

If you have the coach leveled while sitting for long periods of time, it should take some weight off the tires.... and the suspension..... which may minimize the flattening.

If you are concerned about flat spots on the tires during storage, IMO, you have a bigger concern. If the coach is sitting that long without moving you have engine, transmission, differential and axle seals that are not be lubricated and drying out.

It might be beneficial to take the coach on a five mile trip periodically to lubricate seals, rotate the tires to avoid the flat spots, and exercise the systems.

A flat spot on a tire works itself out. A dry rotten seal has to be replaced.

Sometimes piles of snow and ice make it kind of treacherous to dive in the winter, based on your location. Mine park on 3/4 bluestone gravel all winter. I’m always wary of any flat spots and knowing they will subside in a few miles. But I haven’t had any. I do start mine every 2-3 weeks tho and run the generator with a load every 2 weeks.

Prevent? No, they may spread the flat spot out a little but the only way to prevent them is to take all weight off the tire. In addition, the reviews for these devices say they slip all the time and crack/break easily. Not worth my money.

Thanks, everyone. Sounds like I need to take the tire covers off and drive it a bit in the winter. I did start the engine monthly trying to keep the battery from freezing, but now it still needs a jump to start.

We could avoid the problem by going someplace warm after Christmas (we prefer to spend the holidays with family). But that could mean paying for winterizing twice if we come back before the weather warms up. We park in a storage yard and I'm not comfortable winterizing the RV myself.

Anybody have advice about this and a good place to stay warm for the winter?

Going into cold weather storage bump up your tire pressure to the typical cold setting if your not already at sidewall PSIG. A little more air often keeps the tire truer and less time to internally lubricate and line out

I have a sure-fire method;

Tie a snow shovel to your grille, and drive South until somebody asks you what it is!

Sold cars for 20 years. We would air tires up to 45 psi while cars sat on the lot. Once they were sold air down to appropriate psi. Problem solved no flat spots.

I'd suggest when you store it, manually level it so all four corners lift the tires off the ground. Don't see how that would not fix your problem!!! Bob
