If you go by way of I-10 thru Phoenix...then Lake Pleasant is a nice stop-over
If you decide to drive all the way to Flagstaff in your first leg, you should stay in Williams-AZ, the west road to the Grand Canyon on I-40.
We love the people of Williams (hint...DUCKSFACE lives close by)
Along I-40 on your journey east of Flagstaff to Albq...there are several Casinos that offer full hook-up for very reasonable cost.
