cjamio, I did not even try to use the metal bed frame as we did not need this area for sleeping. I don't think it would work and still allow you to add the extra foam to the seat which you need to make it a little more comfortable. I was able to use the original vinyl cover by adding material to the back where it is not normally visible. Most people made a total new cover.
