Accolade DEF Heater issue
My Accolade had a Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) come on for about 200 miles and has not gone off. Based on the Freightliner and Cummins engine manuals the coach could be operated but should be checked at the end of the shift (trip). My Scan Gauge D error code is 4342 2 which indicates an issue with the DEF Heater lines.
Recently there has been some chatter with FCCC about possible line reversal on the DEF header causing DEF Heaters to burn out. Based on email traffic with FCCC they claim there are between 2 and 9 rigs (S2RV Chassis) that are at dealers with an issue. FCCC claims the issue surfaces within the first 7,000 miles and they are working with the dealers and Cummins to resolve any issues.
Last night I dropped my rig off at the local Freightliner dealer to be diagnosed and repaired prior to my trip to Middlebury. I should have the diagnosis sometime this morning.
On a side note there is a heck of difference here. Unlike the hassles of getting chassis service from Ford with appointments, finding truck service centers etc... this experience was pleasant. The dealer is 4 miles from my house and makes appointment for Saturday repair only. Monday thru Friday is no appointment service with hours being 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM. Arrive before 3:00 PM and there is a 95% chance the diagnosis will be completed before they close that day. Since I dropped off at 6:00 PM yesterday I should have my diagnosis by noon today. If parts in stock the repair should be completed before the end of the day.
More to follow.
