slide gearbox
I ,also, have had a gearbox failure in the past and replaced same. after i tore down bad gearbox to see what failed. gears where all ok, the problem is the gear SHAFT does not have an adequately BOSSED area in the case so it brakes out internally and than the gears do not mess and break. MAYBE the new gearbox has that BOSS on there for that reason ? just my thoughts
