I actually use the Rotella diesel 15w-40. Used to be it had higher zinc content for flat tappet lifters. I also use in race motors when bearing clearances are tighter. I only use synthetics where recommended by maker. I tried synthetic in a couple race motors and found no net benefit as cylinder walls looked polished and oil consumption/leaks increased drastically.
