Sometimes the awning won't tilt due to corrosion or dirt. I was at a campground several years ago, heavy storms, lots of rain. The couple across from us left their awning open, mechanism did not tilt, ripped the awning loose about three feet at the roof. Do not depend on the awning tilting like it is supposed to.
