Heat and noise reduction in Vegas
I had read some threads about excess heat in a Vegas/Axis, and anyone that has one, knows there is a lot of engine noise. I have used a product called FatMat, in classic cars and trucks to reduce noise and heat, so I thought I would see if I could install some in the Vegas.
It was quite a project but the things I found were surprising. I knew the insulation in the Doghouse was minimal at best. There is zero insulation above the engine, including the defroster ducts and Vents, No wonder the defroster is so slow to respond. I also found that the corner pillars are open at the bottom, allowing heat or cold to travel up them.
So, I plugged the pillars with insulation, and then put FatMat on the underside of the Dash deck above the engine. I wrapped all the ducts as well. Then applied it to the dog house, put the small piece of insulation back and adhered it with FatMat.
A quick test drive and the noise is better, not exactly dead silent but better.
I am sure it will make a difference in heat.
