Thor offering a $2k rebate

Thor is currently offering a $2,000 rebate on any new 2017 or prior year Axis, Vegas, Gemini, or Compass motorhomes:
https://www.facebook.com/ThorMotorCo...83169168364614

Compass, Gemini: https://thormotorcoach.com/022017-co...gemini-rebate/

Axis, Vegas: https://thormotorcoach.com/022017-axis-vegas-rebate/

Interesting: Thor's page says the rebate goes to the dealer...try to negotiate that $2k off the price.

Thanks -- good to know.

Do you think rebates are effort to lower existing inventories prior to 2018 Model Year being released?

That would be my guess; similar to what the car companies do.

Perhaps Thor thinks there are too many of those models on the lots? (Do they communicate with their dealers--or do the dealers communicate with them? "We have too many")

Perhaps it is also a prelude to a price drop? I know Ford is guilty of that: They introduce a rebate one year and then the next model year's car has a lower list price and the rebate is no longer offered (they've most recently done that with my C-Max).

Perhaps after 4 model years Thor may be looking at a major design update, which could adversely affect value of existing motorhomes on lots.

That would be true for Axis/Vegas but not Gemini/Compass as those are newer designs.

Great point.

Although upgrades may also include revisions to chassis. There are a few chassis features that haven't gone over well with some customers. Load capacity, limited towing, and driver seat that doesn't swivel are a few that Ford could/should upgrade over time.

Thumbs down Motorhome Specialist pockets the rebate

I'm a new member here, but have been following for months now & picked up some great information from you guys. We've been looking at the Axis & Vegas since they first came out & are finally ready to pull the trigger on an Axis 24.1. Motorhome Specialist is our local dealer and we've visited many times over the past few months to narrow it down between the 24.1 and 25.5 models. Given that we've visited and watched their website for months, we know what their price has been - $69,999.00 for the 24.1 since the price dropped at Thanksgiving.

When I received the Thor email about the $2000 Rebate I thought 'Ok this is a great incentive, now's the time to buy' and contacted MHSRV to make a cash deal. Unfortunately they are pocketing the $2000 and claiming their "sale price" of $69,999 includes the rebate - "that's how we're able to offer such a low price" is what the salesman told me. Funny, they offered the same exact price of $69,999 in December and January with no Thor rebate. Buyer beware.

New guy here too, hello all

I had a different experience. My dealer lowered my price by 2k passing the rebate on to me. I pick up my Vegas next Thursday. It's a 2016 25.2. Dealer price was $67k and the rebate brought it down to $65k.

Nice.

I've seen used 2016s listed higher.

Thumbs up Motor home Specialist update

I'm happy to report after visiting MHSRV today and speaking to them in person about the rebate situation they did honor it and took $2000 off the 2017 Axis $69,999 price. They've also updated the verbiage on their website to state the rebate is an additional discount taken through Feb 28th.

That price is at least $8,000 below the guys up in Indiana right next to the factory who claim to have the lowest price in the nation. What in the heck is going on? And who is the hell is your salesman? Cause I need to contact him. thanks. Dave

Just remember to keep all of this new RV pricing in perspective. Many of the dealers will list a 2017 Axis 24.1 as having a MSRP of $109,000 plus. Of course this price is always crossed out and the "sale" price is listed.

So the dealer puts this imaginary sale price at $69,000. In reality he is probably only paying Thor around $50,000 for that unit. Depending on how many he orders and sales he may be paying them less. No one wants to pay too much for a new RV, or pay more than the next person for one, but different dealers have different price points they have to hit to keep their doors open.

Any mention of 2018 Axis/Vegas models from dealers during purchase process?

I asked south Florida dealer during WPB RV Show and he didn't have any information, but I think they are a relatively small player. Certainly not the size of a MHSRV. Unfortunately the Thor representative wasn't arriving until the next day.

You can PM me if you want a hookup. I believe they have a 2016 25.3 left

A 2017 thor 22fe only has a trade in value of 45k as soon as you drive it off the lot. So we had to keep our 22fe and upgrade it. I wish I looked onto good sam financing before going to the dealer to buy it would have saved me. The finance manager claimed he could only get me 7.5% with 8k down. Then he sold me 8k in insurance that was financed into the loan. We were in a rush for family emergency reasons and had to get on the road. After I had time to research, I got a good sam credit card and used my points to get the same insurance the fin. Manager sold me for 8k. I refinanced with good sam for 4.9% for 20 yrs. And got a refund for the extended warranties and road side assistance. Now I am a happy camper.
It is my fault for making an emotional purchase without having time to research the best options. Expensive lesson learned.
