Mine was already equipped with anchor points that fold level with the bed of the trailer when not in use.
The "red things" behind my tiedown storage boxes are 2-gallon Rotopax gas cans. The Rotopax are sturdy and fit behind the storage boxes with plenty of room to spare (only couple inches thick).

I like this for weight reduction but hate to have the bike exposed to the elements while pulling.
I have seen this problem with toads and it's not good.
