Hi Carol, (and everyone else)
AE4OP here from Georgia.
New to the Forum, camping world and first time RV owner (Thor ACE) as of about 3 weeks ago.
Like a lot of people here, I'm entertaining the many ideas of how to mount ant's.

Uhoh - I think I see interest in another hobby rising. Could this be the one that sticks?

Just a lowly SWL'er. Give me a receiver and a bit of wire & I'm happy. [emoji16]

There's nothing lowly about SWL'ing. It just another way of enjoying radio. Many hams including me got their start listening. If your interest doesn't lie there, there are a lot of interesting things to run across on the radio frequencies.

Oh there's always something interesting on the airwaves, for the last couple decades preset #1 on the Drake has been assigned to 6925 kHz. [emoji41]

Quick update on my earlier post. My son, daughter, son's friend and I have started taking a Technician class to teach us how radio works and prepare us for the test. Just had our second class last night. 8 more weeks to go. Really glad I decided to do the class with my family instead of just going it all on my own.

My wife and I took the Tech class in 1992 and enjoyed it. Over the next few years we continued upgrading to Tech+, General, Advanced, and Extra. Learning the code together worked well. Without each other's support advancement might not have happened for either of us.

Not on the air much anymore. I just have a FT-8800 set up at home and a FT-60 handheld I carry in the RV. I keep them mostly for an emergency situation, like if the big one hits! LOL

Nothing set up in the RV yet, but we carry a couple of HTs for backup guidance once in a while. I also keep an old Realistic hand-held CB for monitoring traffic problems. Got it for $5 at a ham radio club auction a couple of years ago. It has an antenna about five feet long and works well from the driver's seat.

I brought my hand held in to work this morning, a lot of static but I am listening.

If you have an FM HT, you should set the squelch so you don't hear any "static" while monitoring when no signal is present.

That works fine for a strong signal but a weak signal, not so much.
