New 2017 ACE 29.4

Hi all,

We are picking up the new coach Wed, 31st. Upgrading from a Jayco Jay Series pop-up. Excited to be moving into an RV we can drive into a campground and push a few buttons and be set, instead of cranking, unloading and setting up everything.
Dealer has scheduled an hour for walk through/PDI. That seems too short a time to me. What do you think? We did spend about an hour looking at it before we made an offer. We’re starting at 4, they’re open until 6, so maybe we can do it in two hours. I’ve read about some folks taking up to 4 hours. Just wondering what others think.
Any other ACE owner thoughts on things to check?

Thanks 😎

As a seasoned RVer you know how a lot of the systems are operated - just need to verify they actually work.

Concentrate your learning time on the new-to-you systems like the levelers, battery disconnect switch, generator, etc.

Unplug from SP and verify the lights, fridge, and other DC loads for at least 1/2 hour, then try to start the generator. That should tell you if the house batteries are any good at all.

Make sure you get the chance to "cold start" everything...don't let them warm up the engine and generator, etc. Go 2 hours earlier and take over. You are the buyer and once you sign the papers...they vanish. Make sure everything you find or question is addressed and repaired PRIOR to signing anything or writing any checks...regardless of what they promise. There's no reason you have to wait until 4 to do your PDI. The "paper processing dude" is gonna want at least an hour to beat you up trying to sell other crap. Go earlier than 4.

I assume you have driven it. Hook to city water. Make sure all faucets work and leak free. Put some water in fresh tank. Unhook from city water. Make sure pump works. Turn on gas hot water first. If that works, turn off and turn on electric hot water. Does electric keep it hot. Make sure fridge works on electric and gas. I don’t think 1 hour will get it cold. Inspect the walls. Any bubbles or “pimples”? Those are signs of water intrusion. Inspect the roof for dried cracked sealant. Tires, and weather cracking? Make sure both tanks dump. Stay in it overnight on their lot. Sign next morning if all ok.

Do not sign anything before doing all of this and then some. They’ll want you to sign first. Don’t do it.

make sure EVERYTHING works as others have said, and it takes as long as it takes. If they try to short change you on the PDI, imagine the hassle you might have when you need service from them.
