Speed limiting governor?
Is there some sort of speed limiting governor set at 75mph?

For some drivers: there should be!
Since you're driving a giant barn door down the road; I suspect that aero-drag is the limiting factor.

Nope not that. When I hit 75 it just plain stops accelerating. Going downhill I can get it past 75 but the cruise control brings it right back to 75.

Since it takes less power to drive downhill: you can always go faster when doing it!
I'm betting aero-drag...
You mention cruise control... Try experimenting without it being turned on. That system might have a limiter built into it.

I can hammer it down and get right up to 75 but when it hits 75 with or without cruise I can clearly hear the engine rpm's drop off. The reason I mentioned down hill as the momentum carries it past 75. I was basically looking for a confirmation here that there is a speed limiting device of some sort. Not quite as simple as I thought.

I've noticed the same thing. I do believe there is a speed limiting governor. I normally cruise at 65 mph but on occasion when I needed to hit the gas the rig will definitely top out at 75 on a level road. The way the engine suddenly levels off at 75 as if the fuel is being cut back is what leads me to think there is a governor.

I'll bet if you call one of the aftermarket tuners; they could tell you if there's a limiter in there that can be disabled...

Yes, most modern vehicles have a speed limiter set. My 2008 Silverado is set at 85. I haven't come across a limiter on my ACE yet, but I'm sure it is there. I could have swore I have been above 75 though, but not above 80.

Yes the 5-Star tuner will remove any speed limiter.

Yes there is a governor. On the ford f53 chassis it is set to 75. After that there is no throttle response you must slow down to 70 before you can give throttle again. I think it has to do with the tires and going back to the Firestone days with ford.

Would you happen to know if the E-450 chassis models also have a governor stuck in there somewhere?
(Not that I'm going to go trying to find it... )

My 2015 Miramar seems to have it. You may get a few extra downhill or if the wind is right but cruise brings it back to 75.

The governor is in the software of the ecm. The 5star tune would be able to adjust it. Not that I recommend it. Did you ever feel the temperature of the tires after driving a few hours at highway speed?

Yes, those tires heat up the underbelly. I made the mistake of putting my remote outdoor temperature sensor in the space behind the RF tire's mudflap and the entry stairs so it would always be in the shade. Trouble is, after driving on the highway that space will bet between 130 and 140 degrees and stay well above ambient for a while.

Thanks all. Not really interested in removing it as 75 is too fast for me to begin with but I sort of accidentally found I couldn't go any faster than 75 and wanted to be sure there was in fact a governor and not a problem.

Dog gone it. That explains why I have been losing all those drag races with this rig! Thought I was losing my edge.

2nd that.... It's nice having it removed for passing. I'm not one for much than 60/65 mph but sometimes you just need to get around those poking along looking at the scenery..... LOL

Many larger truck and RV tires have an "L" speed rating which is 75 MPH.
Driving faster than that on an F53 chassis which may have Michelin XRV or similar tires limited to 75 MPH would expose Ford to significant liability. I'd guess that's why they limit speed.
