My guess is the sensor is covered with scum at that level. If it was the black tank I would say to throw in some ice cubes and drive around then dump. Since you say it is the gray tank put 10 to 20 gallons of water down the drain leading into that tank along with a cup of dish washer detergent and drive around, then dump. It may be necessary to do that 2 or 3 times to clean off the scum. Be SURE to use dishwasher detergent, not laundry detergent or standard dish washing soap. Dish WASHER detergent is low suds and will dump much better.

Don’t most modern RVs have external sensors to avoid this problem? I might check the wiring too.

Short answer is no. They are internal.

I've heard it said that those sensors only "sense" when they've been driven off the Dealership lot...
They then immediately commit suicide!

Dishwashing soap and water are about your best choice: good luck!

The "sensors" are just bolts through the side of the tank and the gauge simply measures resistance between them to determine the level. (For a more exhaustive discussion as to how the tank level monitors work read this thread: http://www.thorforums.com/forums/f27...nsor-1177.html ).

As such it is really easy to form a circuit between the sensors simply by "stuff" dried on the side of the tank. Your best bet is what was mentioned: some dish washer detergent. Since this is the grey tank you could also use hot water to help dissolve the problem.

Install a Garnet Electronics See-Level and this problem goes away. One of my first upgrades as the travel trailer we used to have Wass permanently stuck at 50%. No amount of flushing would make it go away. Now we know all tank levels and LPG tank level to within a few percent. Fairly simple installation provided you can access your tanks.

You could always unscrew the sensor studs an clean them off and reinstall. Be careful with the wire attached to the stud for the low voltage circuit. Had the same issues in a TT years ago and it worked - if you can get to the sensor studs.
