It doesn't matter once you have one bad cell. When the charger is on the battery appears to be OK. Each cell is 2.1 to 2.2 volts per cell. So basically 6 cells will measure 12.6v fully charged. When is system is not being charged as per sitting on the dealers lot, the battery with a bad cell now starts discharging the good battery. Finally they keep working against each other and both discharge and both batteries go into deep discharge and they are damaged beyond recovery. Any time 12 volt batteries are wired in parallel if one becomes week the vicious cycle starts. That is one real positive of two 6v batteries in series.
Bottom line most batteries go bad on the dealers lot if not maintained properly. Ive been shopping around lately for a new coach. I noticed some dealers are now disconnecting the batteries to prevent that. Thor has also gone with a master disconnect switch on their new coaches right at the front door. ON - OFF, No guess work like my USE/Store switch. Several high end dealers keep ALL their units plugged up! What a class act!

I replaced my wet cell lead acid coach batteries (back in Dec 2019) with two marine deep cycle wet cell lead acid batteries from Pep Boys. They were on sale and cost less than 180.00 for the pair. My coach is a 2018 Thor Siesta and when I removed the dead batteries, they were dated 2017. One was tested and it was completely dead. I also installed a the Flow Rite MP2000 water system to make it easier to maintain the battery water levels. No more removing the caps to check them.

When my FLA 27s finally crap out: I'm going with AGM 31s.
(I hate having to check water levels! )

We got one trip out of our house batteries-had to scramble down to General RV to pick up 4 replacements the same date of departure for trip 2-no issues with the new ones.

I replaced the OEM batteries after 3.5 years with Trojan T105 AGM
OEM were loosing capacity to the point i couldn't make coffee ahead of generator time
However they did still power the heat and fridge overnight
Corrosion of the compartment and the cables was the primary reason for AGM
Boondocking with large usage overnight and high charging rates requires more water
We camp in cold weather so that eliminated lithium
Reduced maintenance, no Corrosion, slower discharge when stored made the AGM a good choice
The Chassis batteries are 5 years old and are still going strong
I have AGM in all my vehicles and recreational equipment

Charging Thor Vegas batteries
I have a 2018 Vegas 25.3 and it has been sitting for a couple months. All batteries are dead. I plugged in into 30 amp and assumed batteries would charge overnight. No such luck. Can anyone suggest what I need to do to charge the batteries? That is both the house batteries and the vehicle battery.
Thank you in advance.
Sorry I don’t know how to use this forum. Looks like I posted this in wrong place.

Be sure your USE/STORE switch is set to USE. I say "set" its a push on to activate. Should hear a thump sound. If you dont be sure your converter is running. If your overhead lights will come on thats a sign the converter is working ok.
On your console where you check tank levels push your Battery switch and see if it shows "full".
Try all that first then post back.

I was told in our chat best to have USE on a rv plugged in and to start the vegas once a month so that engine battery does not die

Are those your original batteries?
If so, most likely they are toast.
I suggest you stay with Flooded Lead Acid.
Buy two at Walmart SAMs or Costco, and move-on.
You’ll probably pay well under $200 for the two.

That’s the best way to approach your house batteries
I park my RV at home plugged-in 24/7
I have never used the Use/Store switch, no need to
I check The water level in my Flooded Lead Acid house batteries regularly.

If the batteries are completely dead there will be no clunk and the latching relay will not move.

I haven't experienced that. If your converter is working it should power that same circuit. I might add however that when I first got my coach and was having it worked on in Wakausa the found the power wire to that USE/STORE was wired to the wrong side of the relay that is under the fridge. That would indeed make a difference in how it works with the dead battery scenario.

Taylorbob1,
If your system is wired correctly and the BIRD relay is working properly your converter will also charge the engine battery.

Yes, I hear the BIRD making it's clunking noise on a regular basis after I plug-in.
My 2017 is still on it's original Motorcraft chassis battery (knock on wood).
I changed out my house batteries 60 days after my purchase. That is, my in-service date was Sep-2018 on a rig that was built in Mar-2017.
So it sat on the Dealer's lot for over a year before I purchased.
The house batteries had been neglected (died, re-charged, died, re-charged many times I'm sure).
They were out of water the first time I checked them 14 days after purchase.
I purchased two Interstate FLA's at Costco for $75 each...and moved-on.

Its not a wiring difference, its way the Lithium batteries need to be charged as I understand it.

The Thor MC installed charger's charging profile and BIM are for lead acid, flooded batteries only (those types of batteries from the factory) except for the more expensive coaches which have several charging profiles (flooded, AGM 1 AGM 2, gel, LiFePo4). All three of the major power center's manufactures, can be refitted with a charger that has a lithium charging profile selection. If you have an charger/inverter that does not have a lithium setting, it will have to be changed in order to accommodate lithium batteries. In any case the BIM BIRD must be also changed unless you have a lithium starting battery and in that case the alternator's regulator should also be changed.
