Oregon Increased Out of state RV Park Fees

I just read that as of 08/10/2020 the State of Oregon raised the out of state visitors reservation fees charged at RV Parks 30% until at least the end of 2020 and may extend it into 2021 to address a budget shortage. An example was given that showed a normal fee of $39.00 will now be $42.00. It is their way to discourage out of state visitors and to encourage residents to stay within the state.

If three dollars discourages anyone, the rv needs to be sold and they need to buy a local downtown only bus pass.

How would it encourage locals to stay unless other states propose 3 bucks extra if you have Oregon plates?

Locals shouldn't care. They're not getting a break on fees, they're just Even Steven.

We need more info to draw any conclusion.
Did bed tax go up the same or more?
Bus pass, metro train?
Is there an electric or fuel subsidy for residents which out of state people shouldn't be participating in?

Can't say I blame them, but that example isn't even 10%. And if 3 bucks is that discouraging, whomever is put off by it probably shouldn't own an RV,

edit - I see the duck beat me to it. Great minds think alike :-)

Nah, mines just reverb and feedback and gain, occasional thunder. I have no idea about the thunder.

It is not the small amount in the increase. It is the issue that for some reason they are discouraging out of state visitors from enjoying the state and telling the residents to stay in their own state.

Paul
You are correct about the math in the example they provided it should have been $50.70 and not $42.00.

When national parks raised their fees, was it to discourage?
They weren't raised across the board, just some and not others.

I get a 10cent per gallon discount at the gas station for being local. 20percent in some stores.
Should someone from out of state spending one tank of gas participate in my discount?
Had Oregon raised fees for everyone instead of locals being advantaged by 30% what would the commentary be?

And we can't trust the article.
Did the word seller mean 30 percent or did they mean three dollars?

I guess that if I ever get that far West: I'll just stop before I get to Oregon.
I don't like discrimination based on geography.

Oregon has always been a little "off", and with the continual influx of hippies/yuppies/lefties circling back from California after destroying Colorado, I imagine money is getting tight all over. As far as discouraging visitors...maybe trying to keep from overtaxing an infrastructure they have no funds for to rebuild or expand

We just stayed at a park in Illinois that cost $60/night. It was a nice park but every other site was blocked and everything was closed (store, laundry, rest rooms, pool, bath house etc.). We were told that we “must stay in our unit at all times” and if we are outside of it (to walk the dog, for example) we had to wear a mask or be asked to leave. My wife was livid and asked for a discount. She was told that we are “lucky” they are open at all and they need to charge that much just to stay open. I guess....

Contact tracing has shown a clear connection between a number of COVID cases, in several of the counties (mountain, coastal and southern) that are tied to out of state visitors (mostly CA and WA) Last week the governor was considering travel restrictions due to the increase in cases in some counties, but as of yet no changes.

I would suspect the increase is more due to the recent special session dealing with the budget shortfall.

Local news article indicated that it is both to offset a state park shortfall where several employees have had to be laid off as will as to discourage travel out of state during the COVID outbreak.

I suspect that you will not stop in New Mexico either. Not sure about now, but for a good portion of the summer they limited state parks to NM residents only.

Doesn't New York currently have travel restrictions on visitors from a number of states.

Oregon and it's policy makers have the right to set fees at any rate they want. I don't see the logic in extra fees for visitors as they tend to spend like drunk GIs on payday and that spending is extra revenue for the area. But honestly, with all the rioting going on in Portland and the state authorities allowing it, I don't see that area as a destination for me. There are a lot of things in other parts of the country I haven't seen, so I'll start there.

3 bucks won't even buy a good rain slicker if you're vacationing in Oregon

The three bucks was to offset some cost and was instigated the way it was so as to circumvent a vote by their government.
It's a supplemental.
It won't cover even the dumpster use by out of state people.
They could have raised it by three bucks to people who won't be back often and don't vote there, or they could have raised it a buck across the board to all...and faced the wrath.

It's the right move to get a little financial enhancement so they don't go broke before the end of their fiscal year.

I support such thought.

No different really than hunting / fishing licenses. Non-residents are almost always charged more.

They do. But an action taken to try and control the spread of a virus; is different than an action taken to fill one's coffers on the backs of non-residents.
