Set Up Checklist

Hi, Newbie here - recently upgraded to Challenger 37KT - LOVE HER! We are getting ready to head south and I would like to find a "Set up" checklist to make sure we do it all in order and the best and correct way. SO much more complicated than our TT was! I have seen set up lists for TT and 5ers but not class A's on line - any suggestions? Thanks! and Merry Christmas

Download the RV Checklists app. Has generic lists that can be customized

Same as a TT, Only one thing done differently (easier).

Park in reach of the utilities
Set the parking brake
Level the MH
Turn off the engine
Extend the slides
Connect water and electric
Turn on the water heater
Crank up the TV antenna (if desired and so equipped)
Extend the awning
Break out the outside chairs
Get a Barley Pop from the fridge
Sit in outside chair and relax

I like the way you roll! Plus you make it sound rather straight forward - I may be making it harder than it really is. Thanks

Rvchecklist is the name of the android app.
It has 500+ or so checkboxes and you can add your own and delete the ones you don't need.

You'll be smart to make checklists fo packing and departure. Without checklists, it's easy to forget something obvious!

I flew helicopters for 45 years, military and civil, and in the military check lists are essential and required. Call and response is how it's utilized. Basically if being done by 1 person, you have your checklist, customized for your vehicle and equipment, and start at the top, read and perform, next item, read and perform. Don't skip steps and don't be interrupted. That may seem to be overkill and you'll have armchair experts here tell you that's overthinking and unnecessary. Once you become familiar with setup and breakdown, it will be easier and go quicker. The order of march in some procedures isn't important. With some procedures it is important and required. I won't go into specifics because it varies with different RVs. Don't be anal and overly specific or you won't use it. KISS.

Check engine oil and all fluids
Check battery water levels in batteries that require water
Confirm proper tire pressures for your load
Check generator oil
Check fresh water level - (We run with 1/4 over the road)
Fill fridge
Add clothes
Bring money $$$
Don’t forget the dog and his or her supplies, leashes etc.
Final Walk Around:
* Awnings and slides in and tight
* Coach windows closed
* Lock all storage compartments
* kick tires - looks and feels good and confirms you walked all the way around
* Lock coach door
* Warm up engine
* Fuel up with enough fuel for the day
* Hit the road

What about the beer and bourbon, don't leave home without it. Comes in handy if the neighbor starts his generator at 10pm you'll never notice, sleep right through it

This is why to use Rvchecklist.

No one here has checked headlights or tail lights.

We don't need to set parking brake for any lift or slide.
We don't put our slide out 1 in 30 stops.
No pets
FULL TANKS of consumables and some reserves.
No awning use 96 of 100 stops
No tv chasing
No water hookup.
No sewage hookup

Get the checklist app.
Make it yours.
Cpap? Meds?
Potential route left with potential rescuers?
No one knows your needs.

No two rv'rs do it the same.

Has anyone ever been dangerously low on oil between changes in a v10?
Check trans? Why?
Tpms and a visual.

You're right about the awning, we can't use it, if someone sneezes the awning will slam against the coach. This year I'll be tying it down so I can use it when there is a light breeze. Our motorhome needs the brake set and the engine running for everything but the awning, the awning will not go out with the engine running

The awning on our little toyhauler was a manual.
Same wind induced pain In the ass.
Had to lift a column with finger grip because you couldnt get a hand around it.
The 45° arms had a hobby of grabbing anyone not paying strict attention.
If you released the arms to become uprights they needed anchored with stakes.

I dislike them all.
Toast falls butter side down.
The sun is always on the wrong side of the rv for using the awning.

I have a
Foxwing
On my 2dr blazer.
It's even worse.

LOL Bill - That comes under the “Fill Fridge” category. Beer and wine in the outside fridge, bourbon gets to ride inside...

Number 1 thing for me…. My wife lets me do my thing… We each have our own set up and departure task. As mentioned there are basics, but each brand and size RV have their own sets ups and takedowns procedures. I have used these for a while, several friends have bought them…. Although a little corny they work well, before taking off. Maybe good for you. You will get the hang of it and learn your set ups.

I have a separate checklists for campground location stuff… Flea markets, just in case the dog needs more… Festivals or farmers markets, sometimes (food/seafood) eating local is fun. I don’t have a toad and Uber or campground shuttles work well if available.
