Yellowstone CLOSED, All Gates - Flooding, Mudslides

The park has been temporarily closed at all gates due to flooding and rock slides. No inbound visitor traffic will be allowed into the park until conditions stabilize and the park can assess damage to roads and bridges and other facilities. This includes visitors with lodging and camping reservations.

I had reservations in West Yellowstone for the end of this month, but had to cancel them in April since I traded in the coach for a much larger Thor Miramar that would not fit in the space I had reserved and they had no other large sites available. I then booked Williams Az to take the train to the Grand Canyon for a few nights and then to Kartchner Caverns near Tombstone for 2 nights at their State R V Campground. Glad I was able to make the changes now. Not sure if Yellowstone would be re-open by the time I arrived.

If you break down near Williams let me know.
You'll be parked within 10 miles of my home base.
The train goes right by our place.

On YouTube, look up

Wow, massive storm damage. Looks like the northern part of the park will be closed for a long time. I have Yellowstone reservations at some of the camps for the first two weeks in September. I was also planning to go out on the Beartooth Hwy also. I might cancel till 2023. I haven't heard about Grand Teton NP yet.

I have the first two weeks in September in YNP at several camps and exploring the Beartooth and Chief Joseph Hwys. Looks like I will have to cancel some of my trip also because of the storm damage.

We did this last year..... sounds like the flooding was mostly in Montana. Don't think the Tetons were impacted. They closed all entrances to keep people from coming in until they could assess how bad things were.

I saw a video of flooding on Main Street in Red Lodge. We stooped there last year after doing the Beartooth Highway. There was a huge pine tree floating down the street.

From the helicopter video I saw, I think think the North Entrance of Yellowstone will be closed for a year or more. Several sections of the road completely washed out. It's going to take a massive rebuild.

Sure glad we spent two weeks there a couple years back

The videos would indicate a 500 year event given the destruction

We have gone several times over the years and enjoyed every trip

Hopefully they get the roads in the damaged area open next year

It’s crazy how much rain that has fallen. The northern part of the park probably won’t even open this summer. The amount of damage is amazing.

There has been no heat up here. The whole northwest has been getting rain everyday for the last week. Here is Spokane we have gotten more rain in the last week then we normally get in May and June combined.

Here is why there is massive flooding.
We avoid this area until July.
White water rafting is amazing.

Not surprising that with the northern side of the Park likely closed for at least a year, Yellowstone has now implemented a Reservation System for the rest of this season like the ones used at Glacier and Rocky Mount National Parks.

We don't live far from Yellowstone and have stayed at Madison. What are your concerns?

We are still pretty new to rving and between no hookups and the flooding. I’m worried we will be miserable. Will Madison be a mud pit? Do we need to worry about getting stuck?

Thanks for any insight or tips you can share!

Mud won't be a problem at Madison. It's a big established campground, fully wooded. Even if it was possible, they would shut it down due to damage and erosion that vehicles would cause.
Do bring cold weather clothes. Night and early mornings can be below freezing. We've had snow there in July. Or it could be scorching hot (for those of us that consider 80° scorching)

You likely won't need AC, it's normally not hot enough and evenings are cool to cold. We never use hook-ups so I'm not sure what other concerns you have.
