Yes or No?

A Popular Mechanics "blast from the past". Knowing the maintenance issues for any current self-propelled RV.... would you make the leap to this if it were available and initial cost wasn't an issue?

If I was able to get a license for that thing, I think I would do it in a minute.

I am sure it would be easy on fuel mileage with the P&W R-1820 1,275 hp engine in the nose. The H-34 Siikorsky has a 100 mph cruise using 1.4 gallons per mile of 115/145 leaded avgas. Yes Sonoco still will supply it $22 per gallon. Discounts available in lots of 250 gallons or more.

No.
I can get as remote as I like now.

If I had one so would many other folks.

$60 a night for that lake with 6 months advance reservations. A veal farm for copters.

Not allowed in official parks.
Western lakes, maybe eastern lakes, do not allow air driven boats due to bird nests.
Land landings restricted.
Bush planes can do it now, I don't want one.

Nope.
I Might rent craft/pilot for some reason. But it would be waaayyy down the line of transportation I'd rent.

I'll halfway bet you could rent one today.

GMAFB!!! Popular Mechanics has been runnng this type of article for many years- flying cars, flying boats, now flying MHs with no regard for the practicalities of cost, airway congestion or licensing.

Headlines like "In a few years our garages will be filled with these flying....). If that were to happen, we would have an air crash every minute just like cars on the road, the difference being almost every air crash would be fatal. But i guess it would self correct the airways congestion problem.

Try the "Sugar-Frosted" Corn Flakes...the sugar coating seals and acts as a semi water-repellent varnish, thus shielding the inner corn-grain material from moisture for a bit longer. It takes the piss a few more minutes to penetrate. Eat fast while still crunchy!

Interestingly enough - a few were actually built and sold. (a bit of ads to FF through near the beginning)

The H-34 (civilian S-58) evolved to the twin jet turbine powered S-58T.

I could not find a S-58 for sale, but Lockheed has several S-92 for sale. Useful load is 7,400 lbs, prices run 7 mil to 25 mill depending on hours and how it is outfitted. Operating cost is listed $3,300 per hour in 2020 dollars.
