2023 Sanctuary Solar

It looks like my solar panel is no longer charging. Is there a fuse I can check?

The output of the solar controller is typically wired directly to the battery with an inline fuse on the pos wire within a few inches of the battery.

If that fuse is ok, measure the input and output voltages to/from the solar controller and go from there.

Also is the display on the controller working? If not that means that the problem is on the battery side. If it works that usually means that the problem is on the panel side.

Is the solar controller near the battery as well?

What floor-plan do you have.

Typically, Thor puts a 10amp controller in and a 20amp fuse that should be connected to the 12Vcut off switch (black and white - large switch). You might have to take some stuff apart to get to 20amp fuse.

What shows up on the BMPro Energy screen?

The screen that shows all the stats of the solar is showing zero activity. Typically, it shows how much charging has taken place that day and how much it's bringing in currently etc... but now it's nothing.

I have the 19L floorplan.

So, could be any of a dozen things.

Wires on the solar controller may have become loose. This would not surprise me, when I went in to replace mine with a larger controller, the wires just fell out...they were never tightened.

Find the dc shut-off switch - probably on your left coming in the big door. Find a way to get behind it, there are several fuses connected to the switch. Check the fuses.

If you find the solar controller - it should have a couple of lights on. It could be bad.

Go to https://www.thormotorcoach.com/owners create an account, put in your VIN and find the 'Schematics' document. It will show you where stuff is an how it is connected.

Camping world found that the positive wire was completely disconnected. 1 of many issues is now fixed.

Figures...I just added an every 5000 mile task to my maintenance list --

Check/Tighten/Replace All Electrical Connections

I'm adding a dab of nail polish to all the nuts on electrical connections. If the dab is cracked, that will be a quick indicator that something could be loose.

Good news...just got back from a 7000mile trip, everything worked nearly flawlessly.

The only issue was the Balmar Display or the regulator needed to be reset. I actually ignored it, since I have a secondary shunt with better data than the Balmar.

I can't get to the 5amp fuse to reset the display (without disassembling quite a bit of the passenger bunk), rebooting didn't work. So, as soon as I got home, I installed a switch on the power wire to the shunt/display. If it locks up (looses ability to network with other devices), I just toggle the switch.
