Generator and landline

I have a 2018 Thor Vegas. RV is parked for the winter. Every now and then I will run the RV and the generator, but I always unplug the landline. I read somewhere posted that unplugging is not necessary, but I can not find the post. Can generator be used when landline is connected?

Yes: it can.
The ATS is there; to sort this kind of thing out...

I agree with Bob...you can...but I always unplug shoreline before starting generator anyway...JIC! Much cheaper than having to replace something that fails.

The ATS rules this.
When you run the generator there is recommendations (lots of posts) on making sure that you load the gen set during the run, as in run electrical devices (electrical heaters and A/C's are a favorite) to get the amperage up being generated. Just running the genset does not create much load on the unit.
This typically means you have to disconnect the shore power for the ATS to transfer from shoreline to the genset and get the genset power to the devices in the coach.

I believe that the ATS prioritizes the generator, and automatically switches to that power source.
But if I'm wrong: someone needs to let me know...

Bob is correct again! As soon as the generator has produced power for the pre-set delay time (30 seconds to a minute I believe), the ATS will switch the RV loads to the generator and away from SP. It's best to have minimum loads running when this switch happens, no A/C, electric WH, or Microwave running.

my gen won't start if plugged up to SP. Found by accident once and tested twice.

Thanks to all. I think I will disconnect from landline before I turn the generator on. My plan is to run generator and heat inside of RV while I do some work inside. Stuck at home this winter (due to Covid and wife's knee replacements), watching the snow fall and getting stir crazy.

How hard is it to unplug from shore power, I don’t take chance ,don’t sleep in the graveyard and don’t have nightmares
