Coastal NH to Eagle, CO

We (partner, dog, cat) are planning a trip to visit my son/family leaving here 5/16. We'll be maintaining social distancing, stopping only for fuel and to park overnight-- no public restrooms or grocery stores. Would you park overnight at rest areas? Walmarts? Other ideas. We usually travel back roads for scenery but this trip is just to get there without sitting on a plane or needing a motel at night. I welcome any input on this proposed trip.
Thanks-- and stay well!
Peter

Hi Peter,
While new at this RV thing, we were out for 32 nights Feb-March, just as C-19 was ramping up.
Spent several nights at Walmarts and Cracker Barrels. Always felt safe but probably more comfortable at CB due to smaller size parking lots. They were always very welcoming.
I would call a few now that are on your route just to see how they are handling things.
Another thought is Harvest Hosts. We stayed at several of those locations too. www.harvesthosts.com

Fulltimed for 10+ years & never overnighted at Walmart, CB, truck stops or rest areas, just our choice to help small businesses.
IMHO there should be/will be private rv parks/campgrounds open (the one we're at is & will be) & with all this crap that's been going on they would most likely appreciate the business. Their bath & laundry facilities are closed if still mandated along with their office, but can still reserve & pay online or over the phone. Again our choice!
My DWs BIL has tons of money, travels from East Texas to Cheyenne for the annual rodeo never stays in a rv park always at Walmart traveling both ways, says they cost too much. So while "camping" at WM, slides, grill & lawn chairs out the wife goes in & spends $100 every time. How in the hell is he saving .

His wife would probably spend the money regardless of where he parks, I know mine does! Before we retired, we planned on spending our travel nights in Walmart parking lots. Now that we are retired and taking longer trips, we spend every night in a campground. Can't beat the availability of services and such. Not saying we wouldn't wallydock if we couldn't find suitable accomadations but we shoot for a campground every night.

We have done truck stops, rest areas and campgrounds depends on where we are and what is available. Did Wally World lot once in all the moons of travel. It was in Kalispel Mt and it was a zoo. Stereos blaring, kids riding bikes in and out of the rvs all night and 4 a.m. street sweeper starts running through the rv’s. Haven’t been back to a Walmart lot since. Truck stops & rest areas drivers are trying to get some sleep and other than a truck moving in late they are usually fairly quite.
