I40 Asheville, NC to Knoxville, Tn early may

Looking to travel I40 west from Asheville, NC on May 2 or 3. Thor Challenger 38 ft v10 towing chev equinox and have a few questions.

1. What is condition of the road
2. Any issues for v10 towing using this route
3. How much construction and how bad is it.
4. Any other suggestions gained from experience pulling this route.

Need to travel from Clemson, SC to Wakarusa, IN for factory work on motor home. Thanks in advance for your helpful ideas and knowledge of road.

I live just west of Knoxville and travel to the Asheville area where I grew up frequently. Road is in decent shape. Just watch your speed since it is very curvy and you should have no problems. Be prepared for cars zipping in and out due to trucks etc going slow uphill and geared down going downhill.

We are heading to the Outer Banks Friday and will be traveling that route towing our 4dr Rubicon. We have a diesel but your V10 should be fine.

I'm not aware of any road construction other than some repaving on I75 south out of Knoxville so that's not on your route.

It's the mountains so hills will be there but your route on I-40 is your best and smoothest shot. There is an area around Cold Springs Creek under construction. Interstate is closed till 5/1 but you can go up ramp, over freeway and back down on the road. Should be cleared up by your trip window. Unless you you're touring, always take interstates through mountain ranges. And yes, you will feel the heat and noise from your V10 but it will make it...wear ear muffs and drive in your underwear.

Your last sentence cracked me up. I had a F350 with the V10, it was a screamer. Lol

I went from Raleigh NC to Wakarusa IN in March and the roads are not the best - I did interstate all the way to the north of Indianapolis I think. then up a state route. Just before Indianapolis, there is a Casino (The Horseshoe?) that you can park in overnight - there is roving security. There is also a new FL service center about 28 miles west of Wakarusa that has 5 RV sites with a dump station and electric and water hookups. The service center has a dump station and water and electricity for use. Be aware there is NOTHING around the service area and you will travel for everything. Uber is somewhat unreliable and I'm told there is some Pizza delivery service but I didn't use it. There is a downtown Wakarusa and there are some cute shops and restaurants - maybe 2 there The rest areas are ok along the way but watch the Interstate split in Cincinnati as it gets a bit clogged up. Fuel prices were up and I didn't get to use the EFS card much as there didn't seem to be a lot of fuel places that took it - Pilot and FJ were high enough that a regular station price was still lower in some cases than the EFS discount. Watch for the Horse and buggy traffic when you get close to Wakarusa as they are on the road and in store parking lots. here was my route adjust from starting point:
Raleigh to Wytheville VA 193 mi. I-40......S52...I-74 / I-77
Wytheville to Charleston WV 130 mi. I-77.....I-64
Charleston to Lexington KY 174 mi. I-64
Lexington to Cincinnati OH 77 mi. I-75./. 71 ....I-275
Cincinnati to Indianapolis IN 107 mi. I-275.....I-74.....I-465
Indianapolis to Wakarusa IN 149 mi. I-465......S-31 / S-6

Safe travels
