Summer Mold protection

So, what is the best technique for keeping all the linens, sheets, pillows from gaining mold, or mildew in the Summer,

I just threw away a few blankets stored in the RV. I keep everything in those sealed bags with the one way vent on them. However, something must have been wet, and had that damp musty smell....

Or is the best to store at home in air conditioning and transport all the pillows, sheets, etc just before traveling?

I keep ac at 80 and have small dehumidifier always running. Gets sticky hot and humid in coastal NC.

If you get a mess, you can use this

https://biocidelabs.com/mold-bomb-fogger/

I use those in rentals when my tenants don't follow directions in changing air filters and start a mildew bloom.

Here in humid Florida we keep a dehumidifier running in the RV when not using it. I put it on the kitchen counter and drain it into the kitchen sink:

This is the one we bought.

We keep a dehumidifier running all summer along with the AC going. Open all cabinets so the air circulates everywhere

I've never had problems with mold in the RV. We use it often and keep it plugged in at home when not in use. We also keep it open for ventilation.

Try an ionizer to help get rid of the mold

After lowering the humidity to 50% or less

Peroxide wiped or sprayed on any visible mold or mildew

A/C is your best option if you have that one available. Otherwise, it's a battle with various products. And yes, we unload most everything when we get home and reload when ready for next trip. Clothing, towels, cardboard boxes and other soft cloths absorb and hold moisture. Damprid is another option if A/C isn't but it only works until the moisture level between it and the air neutralizes.

Some great ideas here! I'm new to much of this so please let me ask,

If we keep the RV plugged in and 110 (120) circuit on so that we can run a dehumidifier, is there anything to be concerned about with batteries charging or converters running? Assuming that the only thing running is the dehumidifier?

No, if the converter is working properly and goes into float mode at 13.1 to 13.3 VDC.

That's why you get one with a drain hose option and drain it to a sink or shower.

If you do use the built-in tank it should automatically shut off when full.

FWIW, I see three other options:

Option 1. If you keep the RV plugged in to where you have 120VAC available you can run the AC set at 80 degrees and not need a dehumidifier.

Option 2. While in storage where 120VAC is not available crack a vent open for air circulation and periodically run the generator for the Cummins recommended 2 hours with the AC serving and the load and this will dehumidify the rig. And yes, Cummins/Onan recommended exercising the generator for 2 hours. Feel free to call them and verify.

Option 3. Take a trip periodically and use the AC.

Again, FWIW.

after reading the post again, she had the issue in the vacuum storage bags

quite a few reviews say they leak

you can toss some dry & dry silica gel packets in with your linen if you use those bags

Pretty easy to figure out if those bags have leaked. I think the "something must have been wet" was that issue.

remember a piece of science, plastic bags touching each other will cause one or both to create a moisture cloud in one or both. not sure why or how ...but they do

if you use the big bags, store them flat and not touching each other.

we use bags we got that are made of a tyvec type material it keeps bugs out but allows air movement.

and we never leave them in the bus if its not hooked to ac power to run the air or fans.

Those bags are not what they are cut out to be...they are designed for space saving, not moisture proof barriers. Chop up an onion, place it in a freezer bag and throw it in your fridge. You'll be drinking onion flavored milk the next day.

Ha isn’t that the truth, we will bring chopped onions on a trip and have to put them in a extra refrigerator. The kids won’t eat any of the food if we put them in with everything else. Can’t blame them nobody likes a peanut butter, jelly and onion flavored uncrustable

Thankfully we are in California. No problem with humid air where we live all though there are places in the bay area where it is very humid. Anywhere near the bay. If I had access to power at the storage facility, I would use a dehumidifier anyway.
