Any lessons learned on swapping slide motor

Greetings fellow ACE owners. I have a 2016 ACE 29.4 single slide with the bedroom slide motor bad. I was wondering if anyone changed out the motor and if so, be kind enough to share any lessons learned.

Thanks in advance and happy motoring.

My coach has the same bedroom design with the external kitchen. The entire rear bed surround must be removed to access the motor. For ease, the slide should be out about 6 inches but you can remove the motor with the slide in any position. The bed side cubby is screwed in with three or four screws. After disconnecting the radio (there is a plug behind the radio) remove the cubby. The surround upright is held in place with multiple pin nails and glue behind the center glued in beauty strip. This surround can be worked out with a small pry bar starting with the plinth block at the top with removing the nails but the nails should be removed before reinstalling. Behind the beauty surround is a a single 2x6" that is used to seal the slide when the slide is out. It is screwed in to the metal brackets on the slide with 4 screws (no glue). With all removed you can access the motor's electrical chase, grear shaft and slide gears. To remove the moter you will have to access the motor's hold-down screw from outside the slide (that is the reason for the slide to be open alittle).

Thanks. I believe my unit slide is different than yours. My long (and only slide) is on the driver side.

The 2016 ACE 29.4 that is shown has two slides on the drivers side. Now the 2016 ACE 29.3 has a full wall slide with the rear slide motor end wall beside the closet.

My bad, mine is a 29.3 and as you stated, my slide is nearly the length of the unit on the driver side.

The slide needs to be in some mid-position.
You can access the motor retaining screw from the outside by pulling the rubber seal back.

Then to remove the motor you may need to remove part of the seal retaining trim on the inside and pull the rubber away to lift the motor and pull it inside the coach when you can unplug the cable.

This video will show you what you're working with but doesn't show the retaining screw:

This one shows accessing the retaining screw at 1:05

If the slide is closed tight and can't be moved, how do you access the retaining screw?

You remove the power from the slide's motors and push it open. This can take several people if it is a full wall slide. I have no trouble moving my bedroom slide when power is disconnected at the controller.

I had a slide failure (SOB) and in the process of figuring it out had to remove a motor. I spent an hour wringing my hands and trying to use my phone to download helpful information. But it was literally a 10 minute job once I knew how to do it. I recommend everyone practice manual retracting and or motor removal on a nice sunny day. After youíve done it you wonít have ANY fear or anxiety about slide failure. And when it happens in the rain when you have to be somewhere youíll be a happy camper. You DO carry a ladder donít you?

Thanks all for your replies. I checked and both motors are working. Appears that the bedroom side is two inches out more than the driver side. I am going to try and get back aligned.
