Easiest axis/Vegas mod. One tool, three minutes
I had forgotten about an incident until someone here said to do this mod.
I lost the wiper arm retaining nut on a new silverado at 11,000ft in a snow storm. No drivers side wiper. It didn't fall off but it wouldn't engage the splines so it just layed there.
Do this mod.
There is nothing on that silverado, nor on my axis to keep that nut tight.
The nylon insert in that new nut will not let it back off.
Take the current nut to the hardware store with you to ensure the new nut size is correct.

I was going to try and re-time my wiper arms by removing the driver’s side wiper and repositioning. I removed the nut and tried to carefully to remove the arm. It was not coming loose from the splines. I then tried a 2-jaw puller to “press” the arm off the splines. No joy. I finally just threw in the towel as it was not a battle worth fighting in my case....
This is what I saw coming across Wyoming on I-80 last May....

I did take mine off and "try" to re adjust. Not as simple as it sounds. Once adjusted the wipers will strike each other. Very Archaic setup? I was thinking of heating up the narrow part of the arm and putting a slight bend in it but never did. The shaft the arm is stuck on is tapered like a cone.

I was thinking along the same lines as you on bending the steel part of the arm..
