Cool Unable to open Air Condition unit on roof.

I went on the roof to open the air conditioner unit to clean it out. I was able to remove the two rear screws with much difficulty but have been unable to remove the two front ones.

Any suggestion on how to open it with destroying it? I tried spraying a little WD40 on each screw and waited but still no luck.

The air conditioner seems to work but I would still like to see if it needs cleaning.

Mike

Normally I would say try an impact driver like this:

but I'm not sure i would apply that much hammering to the AC except as a last resort.

But you can put your screwdriver on the screw, tap it lightly several times to maybe have the vibrations help break it loose, then tap it firmly as you are turning the screwdriver to loosen it.

Get a battery powered screw impact driver. It you work with screws, you absolutely will love it. Takes screws out easily, drives screws easily.

If you have some time, try a couple of applications of Kroil penetrating oil on them. This stuff can creep thru most any threads. I would keep it from dripping on the roof however. Once you get them out, I would install with some Anti-Seize.

Tight screws.

Thanks for all the suggestions to loosen tight screws. I bought an impact screwdriver today for under $9 and it worked very nicely. Now I have a new tool to take up space in my RV! lol
