Thor 24 c - 2015 messy cabling

When winterizing the VR last fall, I found the drain valves underneath the kitchen seat. No problem - done

But it feelt like mess of electrical cables, gas and electrical box in there, certainly not the way it was built by Thor, someone added something or screwed around in there.
Anyone has a picture of the way this should be laid out?

When the extension moves, it's a miracle that nothing gets pulled out or breaks

Many thanks
F

Welcome aboard? "certainly not the way it was built by Thor"
You can add (insert RV manufacturer here) they are all put together with wire, cables & hoses running willy nilly wherever the boys & girls building them decide to run them. If you haven't done so invest in a bag of zip ties, a couple rolls of duct tape, electricians' tape, spool of mechanics wire, wire nuts and bungee cords. Keep the stuff in a storage bin for the inevitable repairs. The longer you own the rig the more you will shake your head at how they put um together. Unruly wire looms will seem minor after a while.

Many thanks for this.
I contacted Thor but since I'm not the original owner, I got to register the vehicule with them. It's in process and may take a bit of time but that's fine.

The difficulty is figuring out the amount of stretch required from the closed-to-open position and back, knowing that it's really not good for the mechanism to stop mid-way

A little bit of a puzzle right now..

That will happen soon enough so start familiarizing where everything goes and how it moves about when extending slides. You can prevent some of it by re-routing or moving things around. My full wall slide had the sink plumbing and drains, outside shower, furnace amd duct distribution, range and water heater alomg with gas lines and plumbing and electrical outlets...all within 2 feet of space. It would have been worth the cost of a trip to have a few seconds with that "engineer" out behind the woodshed. Worse, look for the huge hole in the floor of the slide and main flooring that everything runs amd moves about through...covered over by a rigid black tarp that accelerates breakage.

Looks better than most rats nests. Is that your SP cable in there? If so, pull that out and it would look way better than most.

That is the way it is built by Thor. The cabling needs extra length for when the slide is extended. Look before and after you extend the slide and it we become clear. Everything in the slide is that way - electric, plumbing, propane. Not an elegant design but it seems to work. At least that’s the way it is on my 2017 24F. Mine before and after the slide is opened. No black Velcro bag in my coach. I had a 4” rubber seal on the bottom of the slide that I replaced twice. I removed it and now plug the gap with a 3” pool noodle.

Side note... I currently have my MH parked with the driver side facing south (weather side) - the front passenger corner (right front) being the lowest. With the slide closed, I get a little bit of rain water coming in from the lower right corner of the slide. This runs onto the floor and appears as a puddle beside the rear dinette bench.

It seems as though the water runs down the outside bulb seal and enters just below it. With the slide slightly extended away from the wall, daylight is visible there.

Have you noticed that problem with yours? This doesn't happen with the front on a slight uphill incline (coach turned around).

Yes, I have had a few puddles under the dinette. Here is a link to the first issue I had - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1nru...usp=share_link

Plus both the front and back wiper seal bottoms we allowing water to get into the coach. If you look close there is a u-channel at the bottom of the wiper seal that deflects water. My coach had a sight gap between the bottom of the seal/u-channel and the side of the coach allowing water to come in. I filled the red area with RTV and no more leaks. YMMV.

That is EXACTLY where I suspect water is getting in! Pardon my age... . but what is RTV?

Room Temperature Vulcanizing sealant. Permatex is a popular brand. I first came across it as a Navy electronics tech in the mid 70s.

That looks positively neat compared to the rat's nest under the bed in my coach.

Yes, under my bed looked like before i went to work cleaning up wires. i went and bought some tie wraps and tape. Cleaned it all up and reroute as much as i could. Added floor receptacles, added CB's. Looks better and now i can see if there are any mouse droppings etc when i open the bed panel. I added a receptacle just for the converter and the blue box is the side of bed receptacle for a LED night light that illuminates the side of the bed floor.

Then i moved onto the battery area and did the same. Keeping everything tie wrapped and sorted, this is a picture after my inverter install.

Good advice re zip ties and all. The installers never cut a wire, cable or hose to fit. In the Axis/Vegas, the controller for the front bunk is buried in a cavity in the upper gallery cupboard forward sidewall.. Upside and reversed. Along with all the excess sensor wiring. Behind an ⅛ inch panel forced closed with 16 staples. Easing the staples out with an ice pick to save the panel, I was met with a shower of sawdust (but that was everywhere).

This is what the area under my bed looks like.

The Schwintec controller for the bedroom slide is in there as well.

First time I‘ve had that panel off in 3 1/2 years of ownership.

Rats Nest?

I'd call mine a rat's nest, but no self-respecting rat would go near it.

I adhere to the Thor philosophy, i.e., out of sight, out of mind.

Cleaned up

Finally spent the time to clean this up. It now looks like this:

The only remaining thing is to possibly change the water in/out to the heater. They seem pretty stiff, maybe they dried up a bit (which is ironic for water conduits) and need to be replaced. It is a 2015 RV and in Québec the winters are pretty cold

Thank again for all your pix and advice
Frédéric
