Whenever you feel it necessary to clean. We use the tornado about 3 times a season. At the end of a long trip, when at a full-hookup site, and at the end of the season.
I typically will not run it at the dump station when there is a line waiting. Sometimes, if no one is waiting and its early enough I'll run it for a few minutes.
Our tornado is installed such that it really cleans off the probes. Thus my indicator of when to run the tornado is usually when the probes are messed up. (Granted I also have a secondary tank level monitor.)
