THOR #1630
electrical bay

So I tried to cover all possibilities. I did not want to be stranded without the possibility of using electrical power in case I needed to replace my protector.

Further, I wanted an actual EMS, not just a surge protector.

I installed a Progressive Industries EMS-PT50X. It protects against all voltage fluctuations, not just voltage spikes.

Now. if you check out the link, you will see that it is a portable version.

wait a minute, you told us you "installed" this. how can that be?

In the electrical bay, there is a 50 AMP "socket" for my shore power cord. The socket is wired directly into my transfer switch.

I took the wiring from the socket, and put a 50AMP plug on it. Then I wired a 50 amp socket to the transfer switch.

last I connected the Progressive EMS/Surge in between.

This gives me the best possible EMS & Surge protection, but if it ever failed, I could simply remove it, and plug the socket & transfer switch back togethor.

Hope this all makes sense.

cheers!
