Are you running the pump when on city water? It’s not necessary.
If running the pump off the fresh water tank the pump should energize, press up the system and stop with no faucets open. If you hear the pump cycling on and off with no faucets open you have a leak somewhere.
With the pump stopped and the system up to pressure (no pump cycling) open each faucet and listen for the banging sound. Does it happen with every faucet? Turn off the pump, shut the pump inlet valve, and locate the screen filter before the pump and make sure it’s clean. Not likely a cause but possible if clogged. The pump would be starved and continue cycling on and off.
I’d say put in a new pump and it would be a quick way to determine if the pump was indeed the issue but it seems your pump isn’t easy to get to. Mine is in a lower compartment (wet bay) where the sewer valves are located so mines an easy fix.
