I've only seen where a couple of owners have replaced the bi-fold door with a curtain; which doesn't seem like a permanent solution.

I don't know of anyone who actually followed through and did the modification. When the new units started delivering with this configuration there was a few people commenting here that they'd like to do the mod but no one has never posted that they went through with it.
We like the bi-fold but I can see that over time it may not stand up: Ours has started opening while I'm driving around--I think the pin that holds it closed is either bending or no longer fully seating into the roof. I've been thinking about adding a magnetic latch to the ceiling to hold it closed.
