Air conditioning and water filter ??

First of all, what do you do (if anything ) with your water filter after a trip? Does it need to be cleaned with bleach to prevent mold or stored in a particular way?
Second, today when I retracted my awning I was drenched with water that had evidently collected on the awning. I'm talking gallons!! Bear in mine it never once rained during my two night stay. All of this was from the AC I presume. Is this normal? Is there no guttering for the AC ? My site was almost perfectly level and with no rain predicted I didn't lower one side of the awning. Is that something that should always be done?
Thanks
