Which batteries run the radio

When parked and plugged in, which batteries run the radio. I don’t want to make a mistake and run down my starter battery!

House batteries. Unplug from 110 VAC and put your USE/STORE switch in STORE to verify.

Yup!
Although I never understood why they wire them like this...

So you can listen to the radio with the ignition off.

That's the funny part: I've got a Jensen Stereo in the back of the rig. I really don't know why I'd need two systems...

For the same reason you have a bedroom TV, so different people in different ends of the coach can enjoy different programs. My rear radio powers the bedroom speakers and the outside speakers. The aux input on the rear radio is connected to the outside TV so I can increase the TV's volume outside.

If you download the J control app you can control the rear stereo with your phone via bluetooth. We stream Pandora to the outside speakers in addition to the tv.

On my Axis 27.7 the house batteries run the radio.

While rig is in storage I use the radio to remind me to turn off the master switch after a maintainance check or minor putzing around.

I used the bedroom radio for the first time on our last trip. Used the outside speakers. Had to turn it off because it was to loud for the wife who was doing crafts on the dining room table. One of the speakers is under the booth seat she was on.

I want to try to insulate both outdoor speakers so I can enjoy them and not disturb Maria.

I thought about boxing them in and maybe use some dynamat inside and outside the box. Not even sure if I can get to the rear speaker by the bedroom. Front is no problem

Any suggestions????

Jerry

Well I'm going to offer a different prospective. On my 2015 Vegas my radio is wired to both sets of batteries. The house batteries provide current to operate the radio and the rear and side cameras. This is why the radio and the cameras do not work if you have the USE/STORE switch in STORE.

BUT (and this is a big but) the radio presets and clock gets its current from the CHASSIS battery. Think about it -- if the USE/STORE is in STORE and the house batteries are electrically isolated so that the radio won't work, wouldn't the radio's clock and station presets be zeroed out when you put the USE/STORE in USE and turn the radio on?

Here's a question for all the owners out there that put a battery disconnect switch on their chassis battery -- after you physically disconnect your chassis battery for storage, later when you reconnect the battery is your radio's clock and station presets all messed up and require being reset?

On TEE1287 drawing from Thor for 110VAC & 12VDC Layout it shows 12VDC at the converter wire # 6 Gry/Blk providing power to Audio/Visual. It shows 12VDC at Battery wire #A1Yellow providing power to radio memory. On drawing TEE1312 Dash Harness it shows the Radio Plug (1-480708-0) pin #3 with Gry/Blk for RF- and pin #4 with Yellow wire for Battery. This dash harness plug layout agrees with the Layout drawing comments for radio operation power.

And again -- this is all data for my 2015 Vegas and the drawings specific to my VIN. It may be wired differently on other models and production years.

I agree with Ed.

Just switched chassis and house batteries to AGMs. Had to reset clock and all my presets.
Ditto for clocks on and "air settings" for the TV.

X3 for Ed: Our radio was wired that way with the keep-alive wire hooked to the chassis battery and the main power to the house battery.

When I replaced the radio I connected both to the house battery (we never listen to the radio so didn't care about the presets and the new radio has a GPS in it which automatically sets the clock).

I thought this was important to point out. At the end of Oct I'll be installing battery disconnects so that I can completely isolate the batteries for winter storage. If I only put a disconnect on the house batteries the slight drain on the chassis battery due to radio presets and radio clock would drain down the chassis battery while the Vegas was in storage. I want to ensure there is no drain on any of the batteries while in winter storage here in PA.

Can you keep the RV plugged in? It’ll keep the batteries charged up. But leave the switch to on position.
