Before I retired I had to grow my hair and beard. After letting everything grow for about a year we also moved to a new neighborhood. For the next two years I never talked to any of my new neighbors. They might throw me a wave if I was outside but no one welcomed us to their neighborhood. I switched work cars every 3 or 4 months and kept some pretty odd hours.
When I retired I stopped and had my hair cut and trimmed my beard to a short gotee. The shop sent my 13" pony tail to Locks For Love so it could be used for wigs.
In the next couple of months we became good friends with a couple of our neighbors. It was just how they perceived me. I would have treated a new neighbor that looked like me the exact same way probably.
