Dash Cam Location

Placing the dash cam in our class C was a simple thing. Where do you have your dash cam mounted in your class A? Should it just go actually on the dash rather than the windshield?

We use a suction cup mounted bracket about 10 inches up from the bottom but still out of the way. I'm only looking to catch the butt head drives that might cause an accident not the scenery!

As close to the front of the coach as possible. You want as much coverage as you can. Windshield center for sure and at least half way up the windshield so dash doesn't block any outside coverage.

If it goes half way up the windshield do i take the power cord down then over the dash to outlet? Doesn't that obstruct your view?

I agree. We have it for the other driver issues. But sometimes the scenery is nice, too.

I have one mostly to catch the scenery. So far, on our Axis, I've put the dash cam up as high as possible (granted that gives it a bit of a bird's eye view)--just below the "shaded" part of the windshield:

(I think the height also enhances the left/right rocking the coach does!)

In our Class C, we have a small dashcam that we mount just below the rear view mirror. The thin power cord is looped around the mirror's mount post to keep it from coming loose from the camera, then down to the dashboard power port. Small enough that it doesn't obstruct the driver's vision. Ours also has a rear-facing lens that records activity inside the coach.

I used to have ours suctioned to the lower part of the windshield but it was exposed to a lot of heat there and got in the way of our heatshield when parked. So I got a box for a few dollars from a craft store and mounted it as shown. The cord hanging down is for the GPS sensor so the camera always knows where it is and how fast it it moving. The power cord is strung across the top to the left and down the windshield column.

I have mine on the windshield center a few inches from the bottom. The power cable is connected to a 12vt plug I installed under the dash. Its picks up everything

In our C it's behind the mirror and cord is tucked under the headliner and run around to power. I just cannot find a good place on the big Hurricane windshield
