OAT (Outside air temp)

I am amased that any vehicle is built without an OAT. It is important safety equipment in my opinion. My 14' Tuscany 36MQ doesn't have one.
There are some cheppie solutions that I might try, but thought I'd check here to see if anyone had any recommendations...........

I never thought of a thermometer as safety equipment. The dash readout for outside temp is never an accurate measure of temperature. There is a nice write up on weather.com about the systems installed in modern vehicles.

What makes outside temperature a high priority safety feature?
But
Here's a link to what you asked for.
It will do three outside readings at three locations on your rv.

We travel mostly in the winter and it helps to know if the road is freezing or not.
I see I spelled amazed wrong in the initial post, is there any way I can edit it so I don't apear to be more illiterate than I actulally am?......

outside temp will not tell you if the road is freezing.

RWF,

To edit there is an option in one of the buttons at the bottom of your post: Thanks, Edit, Quotes, "" and a cartoon caption box.
The Edit one goes away as unfortunately, you have a limited amount of time after you Post to go back and correct a typo...minutes, not hours.
It will also ask for the "reason for editing" (however, no reply is required).

RWF, I agree with you totally. Traveling in the winter over varied elevations and even colder temps in valleys should be paid attention to. Black ice is a big concern. I have several motorcycles that not only display OAT but start flashing when temps drop below 39 degrees. Thanks for bringing the subject up.

I also agree.

I've often wished that my class C had the lariat package from Ford...with the high end factory electronics, along with all the others stuff...heated and cooled seats, etc.... surely it would then have an OAT indicator!

Oh well.... I've been on the lookout for a long time for some sort of little thermometer that looks like it would mount nicely someplace in view of the helm seat.

Will any of these work?
https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw...ermometer.TRS0

Is there something more specific you're looking for?

Torque app will put outside temp on your phone or Android radio through your OBD port.

Wow, Thanks, There must be something in there that will work. I'm looking for a somewhat accurate OAT I can use while driving without wires running all ovet the place. And, wouldn't it be nice if it kind of fit the decor of the Tuscany......

I must be missing something here...
Even if you don't have this remarkable "Safety Equipment" on your rig :
Can't you just pull up a weather conditions app?
Or even roll down a window?

An imperative 'safety feature' calls for immediate acquisition.
Aestheitcs are farther down the list.
Spend 6 to 15 bucks now.

I bought a monitor for $10 at walmart. The transmitter is behind the sewer access door which is always in shade but still exposed to outside air.

This whole thread is full of funnies, from the grammer/spelling errors to the temp gauge stuck on a heated mirror.... All in a good laugh I guess.

Stay cool

I am surprised by this post. Even the cheap radio in the Gemini has outside temp on the readout screen.

Bang on! Same as a rain gauge will not tell you if there is a hydroplaning threat.

The Tuscany should have an input, it just isn't installed at the factory
