Followed the advice and was able to slowly snake the D cell strip back on the rear slide. As hard as it was to get it back on inch by inch it has hard to imagine how it came off to begin with. Had to retract the slide about a foot to get access.Click image for larger version

i did not think you would have enough space to start and slide it on with the close clearance. For future reference, to slide the "D" seal on, spray with a diluted dish soap. It will slide on easy.

It was never put on properly to begin with. That’s how it came off. You’ll probably find more minor things as you go .
