“Leather” Flaking
So, it’s started. The fake leather fabric on our recliners has started to deteriorate and flake. Coach is a 2017 Challenger LX. Thinking about replacement furniture and seeking recommendations that will last more than five years. Ideally, I’d like to get real leather furniture, but haven’t been able to find any RV furniture in real leather. I’m seeing furniture made with Ultra Leather and Ultimate Leather, but neither is real leather. I’m sure some of y’all have replaced your furniture and I’d be super interested in hearing about your experiences.

Same problem with our 2016 Challenger. Replaced with RecPro recliners. They didn’t last but three years. I’m looking at Shop4Seats. I’ll be following.

That "pleather" crap material was discontinued by most furniture manufacturers (for the most part). It was a boiled pulp blend of leather and plastic glued to cheap fabric that just didn't work. You should be good with almost anything offered today....just check the warranty they offer. There's tons of threads here on this issue and most of them include resolutions. Use the "search" feature just after microwaving a bag of popcorn.

Thanks for the feedback on RecPro. Three years is less than I got out of our factory recliners. That’s one of the manufacturers I was considering. I guess I’ll keep looking.

Has anyone tried the RecPro furniture in cloth upholstery fabric rather than fake leather? Would they outlast the fake leather?

I put them in my last coach. Only had them a year before we traded in the coach. The fabric seemed very sturdy. So much so I didn’t think it was all that soft to the touch but the DW like it.

I would take a quality cloth seating arrangement any day over leather or simulated plastic leather. All of our vehicles have leather and I do not like it. Hot and sticky in the summer and butt freezing cold in the winter.

Rather than replacing, you might consider having your furniture reupholstered. I had the jack knife couch and front seats redone with marine vinyl. They will probably last as long as the rest of the coach!

Do you know what year it was discontinued? Like would my 2018 Thor Hurricane have that?

Check for a tag under the seat it should tell the company that made the cover and the pattern number, contact them, they may still have the pattern. We did that with our challenger seats, they sent us samples of available materials in ultraleather boss picked one we paid a very reasonable price. Easy half hour installation didn't have to remove seats. Very happy. We also found tags on dinette cushions and ordered them to match.

I don't think it was a blanket movement. I think each furniture manufacturer dealt with as it overcame them. They all probably purchased the same material from mostly the same suppliers. If yours are not flaking yet, you probably don't have that material..or you'll see it soon. It starts as the material dries out and stretches with heat and butt pressure over time.
