2020 Thor Freedom Elite 26HE Drivers legroom mod
Greetings all! We just bought a 2020 Thor Freedom Elite 26HE, and we are getting to know our way around it. I was aware of the legroom issue when I was looking for a class C RV, and this one was no exception. I wasn't too concerned however because I was certain I could resolve it. After getting it home, it didn't take me long to figure out how to make it work for me (I'm 6'1"). I decided the easiest way was to cut the back half off of the forward dining seat and simply hinge it. I used an oscillating multitool to make the cut (since it leaves a nice smooth edge). After cutting off the seat back, I filled in the gaps between some 1" x 2" scraps, and added some brown duct tape to cover the cut area. I then added four hinges that I screwed into the existing vertical 1" x 2"s. I added a piece of foam to support the back against the wall when sitting in it. The drivers seat back simply needs to tilt forward a few inches and it allows the dining seat to be in it's proper place when no longer driving. This mod probably took me about 2 hours. I am debating on whether I want to come back in and replace the duct tape with something more permanent and that has a better appearance, but you can really only see a small portion of it behind the drivers seat, so it may stay like this for a while.
