MaxAir Vent w/ Remote Rewire Project
Many moons ago I purchased and had Camping World install the MaxAir vent with remote in my MH replacing the vent fan in the living room ceiling. Those idiots wired the vent fan to the overhead lights sooooooo the only way the vent fan worked is when the lights were turned on. A real piss-poor installation on their part!!! I finally got a chance to fix that install. The problem was to find a 12-volt source, which I found that would work. As you can see by the pictures, I decided to run the wires from the vent fan along the ceiling, through the cabinet and terminating at the TV Antenna tuner. PROBLEM SOLVED!!!! If you were wondering what the green light is, it indicates the fan is on the automatic thermostat mode. I purchased a plastic wire conduit ($5.00) from Lowe's the cover the wires from the fan to the cabinet. I am a happy camper!!!!
What do you think of my solution????

That's about as professional looking as you can get! (Boy, there sure are a lot of negative posts regarding CW. I know where NOT to have service done!)
Did that fit in the original vent space without any additional cutting?
Great job!

Dino,
You said replaced, so that implies that there were already 12V wires to the original fan. This raises the question as to why CW didn't just use the same wires. Or... is this a Thor problem with installing wiring wrong and tying the fan into a lighting circuit - as dumb as this is, its well within their capabilities, even with prefabbed wiring harnesses (or it could be a bad harness).
Also I'd be looking at the Dicor sealing on the roof. If they messed up the wiring, I can image what a poor job CW could achieve on the roof seals.
I found a fairly large crack in the Dicor on my bathroom vent when I was up there cleaning the roof. I was installing solar too, so I had a roll of Eternabond tape which I used to cover the cracked area. Plan is to install a remote controlled fan in place of the manual fan in the living area and move the original fan to the bathroom to replace the really, really cheap fan they used in there. I did a fan replacement on our old trailer and the hardest part of the job was peeling up the old Dicor. Replaced fans will get Eternabond.

Dino had a manual roof vent with no fan replaced and there is no wiring located in that area, I know because I have the same coach.

I guess I misspoke...Our 29M came with a vent in the living room without a fan, which we thought was kinda weird in the first place but no biggie, problem solved!!

That explains why you didn't have power. Seems really strange to not have at least a powered fan in a coach like a Hurricane. Our ACE has two fans, one in the main area and one in the bedroom. Both require a bit of stretching to turn on an off (or a stool for DW). Remote controlled fans are on the wish list.
We had a Keystone Passport trailer before the ACE and I installed a Fantastic fan where we had just a vent. That trailer had lights with integral switches, so I was able to tie into the power to a light that was about a foot from the fan.

When we purchased our 50 amp 29M, she came with a vent (no fan) in the living room, a maxair (manual) in the kitchen, a cheap vent fan in the bathroom and no vent fan in the bedroom since she had 2 air conditioners. Now she has a remote controlled vent fan in the LR, remote controlled vent fan in the bathroom, and a manual vent fan in the kitchen!

My buddy came over today for baby back ribs on the xl bge.
We had 4 hours or so to kill so we went to the mh. We got the wires pulled for the second a/c in the bedroom. Still need to run the wire from vent openning in ceiling to the overhead cabinet and from under the bed to outside where the 20 amp plug will go.
Hardest part is done.
