That's a whale of a yellowfin. We have to go out overnight to get to those. It's nearly 10 hrs boat time each way. I seldom (3-4 times/year) go offshore and usually just 15-20 miles for snapper during Fed season and then troll rest of day for mahi, wahoo, black fin and the occasional sail.

We're on SPI on the S Texas coast close to the Mexico border. Mostly bay fish for speckled (spotted sea) trout, flounder and red drum. Did hook two casts in a row up to a 3-4 ft tarpon on a silver spoon this fall but on 8 lb test.

Anyway.... 86 F here Saturday so everything is good.

We like it on the bay. Only need to remember one simple rule in the unlikely event you fall overboard: "stand's only 3 feet deep"

10 hours would be great. The tuna I got was on a 10 DAY trip. Left San Diego motored south along the Mexican Coast for 3 days. Then fished our way back up to San Diego for smaller tuna, Mahi, Yellowtail, and my favorite Wahoo. Now that I retired I'll be doing one San Diego trip a year starting in 2018 with a 16 day trip. 2017 I'm going to Alaska for a 4 day fishing trip. The dw only lets me do one big fishing trip a year.

I look forward to seeing some of your fishing photos.
