Nervous Newbies 2019 Vegas 24.1

Going to inspect and sign for our first Class A, purchasing from a private party in another state!
I'm taking the inspection checklist from this site and have watched tons of YouTube about what to look for. I've been in touch with the original owner and my wife and I will travel 8 hours to meet her and see the rig. I have loan approval and looking for insurance. We have never made this large a purchase out of state before.

Now what? If everything is good, we sign the bill of sale. The financing wants certain documentation. We come home, then wait for funding? Anyone have advice or can set us at ease? Do we need temporary tags?

I've gone through all 97 pages of the mod pages already and can't wait to get my hands on it!

Tia,,,,Larry

Rvchecklist is an app to take with you.
287 predelivery checks.

Check tire dates.
I don't exactly believe in out of date tires, but check anyway.
I can't help with the financing styff.

You will need a temporary tag. If you have AAA, they should be able to do the paperork and they will issue a tempoary tag for their state that will be valid for 30 - 90 days depending on the state. Otherwise you will need to find a notary and registration service that can notarize the title transfer and issue a temporary plate. Since you are out of state they likely won't take out sales tax.... but FL will take care of that when you register there.

Florida will require the Bill of Sale and Notarized Title. FL also requires an Odomoter Verification by either taking the coach to one of the country license centers or having a dealer (RV, Car Dealer, etc.) complete the form and attesting to the odometer reading. You can download the form online. Florida will issue you a plate and owners card and send the title to the financing company as part of the lien.

Shop around for insurance once you decide to make the purchase. As you know, FL insurance tends to be higher because of hurricanes, etc. Then have your agent give you a binder so you have coverage the day you sign the paperwork.

Rule #1..... Don't be afraid to walk away if your PDI uncovers concerns. A large purchase like this one is an emotional decision but you need to make it a logical decision at the end of the day. Check everything and don't worry about how long it takes to complete. You could spend 2 - 4 hours testing and inspecting everything depending on the coach.

- Water intrusion is one of the biggest concerns so keep your eye out for signs of water leaks or water damage.

- Open and close the slide a couple times. Inspect the tracks for signs of wear or damage.

- Run the genrator and make sure the A/C unit kicks on and runs ok. If they can plug into shore power, check to make sure the A/C runs under shore power as well. This will verify the transfer switch is working as it should.

- If you can get access to the roof, check to see how the Dicor sealamt looks and if the roof has been mainainted (cleaned, new sealant applied where necessary).

- Run all the water fixtures and check for leaks if you can gain access to then drains and water connections, etc.

Good Sam offers decent rates but you should shop around. Here are Good Sam's current rates for used RV's.

Good luck!

All great advice! I have losn approval through Bank of the West. They have a list of docs they need for title and registration. I'll call AAA on Monday and see what they say. Also calling DMV here in Florida. I was doing OK with planning til this out of state popped up! As I told my wife,,,,people do this everyday,,,we'll figure it out.

Congratulations and welcome to the site.

As for the "now what" after you've got it back home: Take a look at the crowd sourced Axis/Vegas owner's manual found here (If you haven't already):

If you are second owner, the THOR warranty will still apply. Enjoy the ride home.

I just bought an out of state vehicle. Last month.
Do whatever is required on the out of state title, then drive it to your state.

My last oos purchase he kept his plates and we went home without a license plate. Any stop except a truly dumbass cop will fully understand the situation(and his superior officer will set him straight)

The one before I borrowed his plates and mailed them back when I got it home.

Don't know your background with RVs but if you are concerned about not buying a lemon, you could get it inspected by an independent inspector. There is an organization that runs training & certification for inspectors. (Sorry I'm having a senior moment on their name at this time, but maybe someone here will chime in.) They supposedly run the RV through all its functions and check a host of points on their list. I kind of wish we had known about this when we bought our (2018 new) RV. It could have been useful.

As far as title transfer and all, I don't have much to contribute. Dealer in Indiana took care of our paperwork and temp plate for us to drive home to Michigan. In MI you are allowed to drive direct point to point without a plate on a newly purchased vehicle (even if it is used). Don't know what those rules would be in your case/state. Then you have so many days (I think its 30, but we always do it right away) to apply for permanent registration here.

Enjoy your Vegas. We have a near twin, Axis and there is a lot to like about it. We recently returned from a month long amazing adventure.

So inspection is completed,,,driving tomorrow. Not as clean as I was led to believe. It's all there, functional, and easily brought up to standards. DW loves it,,,so we'll work out the details after we drive it. We'll have to return the 8 hour drive again to drive it home. Super excited to get at it. It appears to be a quart low on oil. Is it possible to convince an oil change place to inject a quart through the dipstick tube? Bad idea?

You're fine at a quart low.
But
I pay about 80 bucks at oil change places to have them just change the oil.
Do that if others here scare you about the quart low.
And
They use a pump and nozzle to fill from a bulk barrel.
They reach that oil filler on a v10 just fine.

Inspection completed (thanks for the PDI checklist! ) and only minor issues noted. Gonna have to complete financing but bill of sale signed. Two nine hour drive days went well but convinced me to fly out there to drive it home to Florida. BTW,,,, Texas drivers,,,,,settle the heck down! By far the rudest most unsafe driving was by Texans,,,,mostly in big pickups. Relax,,,,be safe out there.

Congrats on the new to you motorhome. Oh and it ain't just Texas with rude unsafe drivers. Seems to me they must teach tailgating, speeding and weaving in and out in Drivers Ed these days.

My last motorhome was a Forest River Class A on a Ford F53 chassis. I changed my own oil but within a month of driving I would always be a quart low and I would of course put in the missing quart, come to find out Ford had installed the wrong dipstick so it always showed a quart low. It wasn't, I was overfilling and the engine was pushing it out. Check out the dipstick.

We have the same year and model. Congratulations! I’m sorry you had a bad experience driving in Texas. Parts of IH-10 can be pretty scary in an RV.
