Better? Yes. Black out all light? No.

Her number is the same as mine.

I second the vote for the vent pillow. We have several of them—one for each of our roof vents—and not only are they much cheaper and more effective than most other alternatives, they are also small enough to be easily stored when not in use. What's more, they also do a fabulous job of minimizing the temperature increase that inevitably occurs inside the RV when the hot summer sun beats on its roof for hours on end.

However, different strokes for different folks. If vent pillows don't float your boat I hope you are able to find something that works for you.

I ended up buying the MaxxAir black RV vent...MAJOR difference in the amount of light that comes through, plus it blocks direct sunlight to help keep the heat out.
I didn't like the idea of a vent pillow for two reasons...just another thing to store somewhere, and sometimes I like to take naps during the day and have the vent fan on.

I see camping world has this, but it looks like it would still let a lot of light in.

Anyone?
Our motorhome came with two black Maxx Air fans (one for exhaust and one for intake) to which I added the reference shade covers. Works like a charm. Now how to I block the humongous shower skylite?

So...I went to mount my MaxxAir and I discover my vent has these flanges that interfere with the cover. Never seen these before.

But while sending this photo, it looks like my vent is cracking in the corner. That I maybe able to fix with some sealant or just buy a new vent..argh. Don't you hate it when something simple turns into something else??

Edited: I thought that corner had a crack...it's the shape of the vent. Whew.

Anyone know what these tabs are for on the side of the vent? I would hate to cut them off to get the MaxxAir to fit and then find out later they serve a purpose.

I bought a MaxxAir vent and these tabs are in the way. Is there a special vent I need to get?

Affirm...quick connect as your Amazon link shows. Vent cover clip on in a matter of seconds and is done. Solid connection.

I don't know how MaxxAir can justify selling a vent hood that I bought for only 26-bucks, and then charge over 60-bucks for one that clips on. And the one I bought comes with metal brackets and screws.

And on top of that, the hood that just clips on doesn't even come with a bug screen, you have to buy that separately. So, by the time you're done, you're looking at 80 bucks! What a freaking rip-off!

Call me cheap, or just refusing to be ripped off, but actually thinking of notching the one I have so it fits over the tabs and figuring out a way to attach it. Maybe I just need time for the shock to wear off.

I bought 3 of those vents from Amazon - all 3 were deformed/defective. I went with the cheaper version and just cut the tabs off.

Cool...I'm not alone.
When you said you cut the tabs off...you mean the tabs on the vent I have on the motorhome or the tabs off the Maxxair?

I read some of the reviews of the more expensive one with the "EZ Clip", and the reviews were not good. Many said the bug screen that comes with it is really flimsy and many attached it using hotglue, screws, zipties.

And that is why they went back to Amazon.

I just used a 4" grinder with cutting wheel and zipped the tabs/ears off the vent.

Thanks for clarifying. I was actually thinking of cutting off the tabs on the MaxxAir and either using the metal brackets I have or figure out a way to use the tabs on the vent to secure the one I have.

Just use the metal brackets.

Now I'm thinking of maybe just returning this and put in AC unit in the back bedroom.
The existing AC I have doesn't really cool the RV even on 80-degree temps.
I'll have to do some research on the best way to run the wiring/breakers.

I have read where some people have just added a second plug and run the second AC on it along. I'd be inclined to switch out the 30-amp connector and put in a 50 instead of having two plugs.

If you saying you have a 29M with only 1 AC, I don't see how you have survived this long. I have seen 27Bs and 29Ms with 2 ACs struggle when temps were in the 90s. I still don't get the logic of building a coach that large without 50 amps as standard ( or at least two 11,000btu units and 30 amps). To me it would be akin to buying a new house even in Minnesota where it was designed for AC downstairs, but not upstairs. Yes it is true, I don't need 2 ACs all the time, but there is never any time where I think it is acceptable to only have 1 when I needed 2. Now you may be Northern California, but one would think you may eventually travel in the RV someplace where it is hot?

Unfortunately there's more to it than just switching out the 30 Amp Recptacle for a 50 amp receptacle:
Gotta change SP cord
Gotta change power center to a 50 amp power center.

A separate receptacle is the path of least resistance and expense.
