Dually tire stem/core problem
Hello Everyone,
I took out my 2015 Axis 24.1 from the storage to install TMPS system on my 6 wheels. Started with front wheels without any issues. My next tires were supposed to be the rear wheels. The outside wheels on both sides were fine but I could not setup the monitoring sensors on inner wheels on both sides of the coach. That was strange. The valve stems looked fine, no leaks. Got my air compressor and decided to check the tire pressure. No readings? Tried to put some air in. Nothing goes in. When I pushed the stem cores in with the sharp tool, no air was coming out! I thought I had a bad core, so I decided to replace them. With the new core in my hands I was slowly unscrewing the old one. To my total surprise the air was not coming out even after the old core was completely out of the stem! I replaced the old core with the new one anyway but this obviously would not help at all. So, two inside tires on my coach do not take any air in and there is no air coming out.
I thought this is going to be easy fix but now I am completely stuck and confused. Did anyone had this experience before? What is causing this to happen? How can I fix it? Any idea will be greatly appreciated.
Of course my last option will be taking the trip to the tire shop to replace both valves.
I also have a question. When I pulled out the existing, old stem core from the inside wheel I was surprised to see this long core (5 1/4"). I was not able to put it back so, I screwed in the new, short one. Why this stem core is so long? (Image attached).
Can I replace it with the regular one? At this point, I had to do this anyway. Thank you.

Sure sounds that way. Time for a careful trip to the tire shop.

I think you may have to put that long stem back in.
Have you tried putting air in the tires?
Have balancing beads ever been installed in the tires?

Sorry, pressed the wrong button...it appeares to me that both tires are not flat but I need to slide in under the coach to see better. But if that is the case and both tires are flat why I can't put any air in. Agree, tire shop is my next step. I wonder if Big O can handle lifting the coach? Otherwise, I will need to find truck tires place. Thank you for your help.

Hello 16ACE27, I have tried to put the air in with no success. It looks like the stem is clogged/blocked by something. I need to check the tires from underneath one more time to see if they are flat. But both, at the same time? I thought that stem core was faulty and that is why I decided to replace it not knowing tha the inner tires have a different type of core. Since the stem is angled on that tire I could not put the original one back in. Thank you for trying to help.

I am not aware of having balancing beads in my tires. But it is possible they are there. Could they clog the air valve?

Rear Tires
I am guessing that the long tire stem core you pulled out also means you have one of those long braided metal extensions? Our 2016 Axis did not have those.

Have you ever checked the pressure on the inside tires?

TPMS vs. correct tire pressure
Is it possible that the initial tire stem has a bad valve core ( or should have been removed ) before the braided extension was installed ? You might have two valve stems in place when you only need one ( due to faulty installation of the extensions ). I bet the tire shop can find the problem. I have had trouble with the 6" braided extensions on my 2016 24.1 Axis inside rear dual tires. Good Luck. Nick in TN

I tried to check the tire pressure at home but there were no readings on the instrument. That is why I decided to remove the stem core.
I am at the Big O right now. They removed the extension on one inside tire and were able to put the air in without any problems. I guess the extension caused the problem. I also learned that I had a flat on that tire!
Now, the other tire. They tried to put the air in, nothing. They removed the stem core, nothing, no air out. They tried to put the original, long stem core in but this thing does not go in, period. Something is blocking the core to go in. I guess the next step for them will be to remove the wheels and replace the air valve on the inner tire? I am still waiting and will keep you posted

Could be at some point somebody slimed the tire and it was parked with the stem in the low position so now it’s hardened up. Nothing a remount and cleanup can’t fix, and the money......

Got the tire fixed. Alleluja[emoji3]
The guy removed the inner wheel, had to remove the stem, reinstalled the original long stem core (the one I removed earlier) and everything went back to normal. No one at Big O could tell me exactly what caused this to happen.I wish I had a better explanation so we all could learn something new. I was told that stuff like this...just happens[emoji10][emoji19][emoji51]. Well, now I can finish installing TMPS and hopeffully will be able to monitor the tire pressure all the time.
Thank you all for your ideas, comments and first of all, such a quick response.
HAPPY EASTER!!!

Sounds like you have add on valve extenders.
https://www.amazon.com/YEHAM-Stainle...s%2C340&sr=8-4
When one of your inner tpms starts alarming don't panic its probably the extender valve core not pushing the oem core. Easy fix, remove the hub cap then extender
(helps to have small hands like my 15 yr old granddaughter )
no need to remove the outer wheel, and reinstall the sensor.
Throw the extender away .

No one at Big O mentioned that to me. They just were able to put in the old, long core in and that was it. But now, when I think about it I can clearly see your point. I am going to remove the wheel cover one more time and check it. Thank you again[emoji3]

I think that you are 100% right. The braided extenders are there with the long cores on top of the original one. I do have 2 stem cores! Now I understand why I am getting audible warnings from TMPS on both, inner wheels. I will check that asap. Now, you suggested getting rid of the braided stem. Well, if I do that there is no way I be able to reach the inner, original stem in order to add some air or remove the TMPS. Could I remove the short, original core stem from the inside tire and put back the braided one or another extension? This way I would only have one long extension with one stem core.

What ever you decide to do, make sure the valve stem for the inner tire is supported. if not the TPMS will start to wear the stem against the rim and wear through causing the inner tires to go flat. We had this problem on our way west when the rubber support on the rim supporting the inner valve stem came loose allowing valve stem to rub against the rim wearing a leak in the stem. Stem was replaced and rubber grommet re-seated and no more problems. Something I need to watch before and during each each trip.

Axis
On our 2016 Axis on the E450 chassis, it did not have the long extenders on the inside tires. It had short metal stems that were bent back to allow access. I never did put a tire pressure management system on it so I cannot remember if they would have fit. Glad you made some progress but I would not trust those braided extenders and would suggest looking for a more "solid" solution. I went with the "dually valves" on our 22.5 inch wheels because I ditched the original extenders that gave me nothing but the same kind of trouble you had.
