Assuming you have a JVR 212T, here's what the owner's manual says:

Power On/Off
• Press the power VOL/ button (1) to turn the unit on/off.
• Press and hold to turn the touch screen backlighting off when driving at night. Audio playback
is not interrupted.
• Touch any area of the screen to resume the previous display lighting and mode

Are you long pressing the power key?

In my 2014 Vegas, I had to install an on/off switch to get the unit to completely turn off, i.e. no clock. There are good instructions in exactly how to do it somewhere in this forum. It is not hard. Take out the radio and cut one wire and splice the switch in. Mine was tied to the house battery and was a significant drain while dry camping.

On our 215 you have to hold down the power/volume knob until the display shuts off (like 5-8 seconds).

That usually powers it down for me (I believe that there is a setting buried in there somewhere to show or not the clock when it is powered down).

OK I got that. Now we are on the road. I just put in a different CD and I can't get the unit to play. I pushed the menu button and nothing! All I have on my screen is the rear camera. HELP!!

I generally have to hold the menu button for a couple of seconds on the 215 to get it to the menu screen

The maker of your unit is ASA Electronics. They have a good help line at
1-800-688-3135. Have you read the trouble shooting section of your owners manual? Have you pushed the reset button?
