That is why every purchase contract for any vehicle I buy states the dealer will provide full DOT code for every tire to include spare if equipped. About 20 years ago I got tired of crawling around getting codes myself.
When I buy tires I do not accept anything older than 6 months and the installer records all DOT codes on the invoice.
As a note, some RV tire road hazard plans require full DOT numbers to be recorded on the contract.
