Warrantee Work

My Tellaro is about 11 months into the original 2 year warrantee and the Truma Combi unit needs to be replaced. Thor has approved the replacement under warrantee but won't cover all of the labor. It seems the dealer wants more hours than Thor believes it should take. That leaves me to pay $300 on a covered part. Is this typical? Should I be prepared to pay out of pocket in the future for warrantee repairs?

What has been your experience with warrantee work?

Have a mobile RV repair tech come by and give you an estimate for R & R. Send a copy of the estimate to Thor MC and if they approve it, they will send you the replacement unit. You have the mobile repair tech come by and do the R & R. Have the tech pack the old unit in the prepaid Thor MC box and pay for the tech's labor. Enclose a copy of the bill with payment shown and put in the box. Thor MC will send you a check as soon as the original manufacturer agrees the unit is faulty. Why take the RV to a dealer when you can have the repair done at home?

I haven't had to have warranty work done on my current RV, but I did on my previous two. Never had to pay a dime for the dealer to fix or replace a faulty component. But then, that was a privately owned dealer in the time before Camping World went on their dealer acquisition spree.

I even had a recall on a microwave oven in the RV and the appliance manufacturer contracted with an appliance repair company to come out to my house and do the recall.

Mobile techs have little overhead, so the labor rate is usually 50% of what a dealer charges or 40% of what an independent RV repair place charges.

For $300 with the service industry in such turmoil today...let em fix it, pay it and move on. You got Thor warranty cashing in and a dealer "ready" to make repairs...way better value than trying to beat it to death.
