Often driving skills are not the problem in fueling stations and truck stops. If you are towing and can't back up it is easy to get in a situation where you have to unhook in some of those fuel stations. Usually non-RV owners could give a hoot about your need to maneuver and will park where every they damn please. One of the nice things about the truck lanes is you don't have to worry about unthoughtful drivers blocking you from an exit. And its not just fueling stations, how many times have you been to say Cracker Barrel when the RV parking lanes were full of cars?

Anyone who has a diesel shout get the TCS Fuel card and use the truck lanes. You can save a bunch of money and don't have to go inside. Be aware it is not a credit card and you must set it up to draft from a checking account but you can often save $.30 cents a gallon, especially at Loves.

Finding gas is the biggest hassle of owning a gas RV. If you are towing it is beyond a hassle. It's easier on the two lane roads because they pass through little towns where there are older stations that have the pumps parallel to the road. It seems all the newer places and freeway stops have them perpendicular to the entrance leaving very little room for getting in/out.

TIP: Cenex stations on the back roads are almost always accessible. Some of them still do not have card readers though.

I stopped at a 30 population town near Nebraska/Missouri border.

They still have the old big aluminum 'clear the pump' lever Analog pumps from the early 1960's. No key(you remember those?), you cleared it yourself.
Off the non-curbed road by a slight left, back on by a slight right.

I've been to dozens of similar fuel stops.

Do not boldly go where 100,000 have gone before.

Life can be easy.
Download the iExit app.
If one station is full/cramped/not going to be good...
Pass. It. By.
Serve YOU, not the circumstance.

On the 40, the west most exit to Gallup, there are three stations.
The pilot/flying J/chain station has every pump busy, full of cretins zombie'ing as they do, wandering on foot and by rental car through the drive areas, double parked with trailers awaiting a pump. Always ever, every time.

In the shared parking lot is a station with 12 pumps. I've never seen 4 cars at them at one time. Gas is 5 cents a gallon more. HUGE turnarounds straight shot, easy easy.
The big sign and lure of fast food at the mega-station tantalizes the masses and they get tunnel vision, missing the 12 pump opportunity.

Why do some if you insist on making things so hard?

In the Midwest and upper Midwest i usually find a Cenex off the beaten path

They have top tier Diesel fuel additives and an excellent gasoline as well

Most are laid out for pickups towing trailers and big rigs

Having an 800 plus mile range sure don’t hurt

Patience is a virtue when you pull into a busy gas station. It is really annoying having to wait for the pump you want to clear by those inconsiderate folks. Usually they come strolling out within ten minutes or so. Sometimes they realize I'm waiting, sometimes they could care less.

So often there is a smaller station across the highway that is almost deserted. A few cents more is worth it, even for a 50 gallon fill. Easy in and out and no wait. Plus many of those stations have top tier gas.

That happened to us this year...
We usually go to Loves and that particular place was packed and we realized we would not be able to fill up...
As we where leaving the place, we saw a Flying J sign just the other side of the highway and decided to give it a try...
That Flying J had way less people and it had (empty) RV lanes !
Now we are planning our refueling trying to stop at those stations that have RV lanes...

And if you're a Good Sam member you can get 5 cents/gallon discount on gas; more on diesel.

Nothing beats Buc-ee's for fuel when towing or not towing. It is worth going to Katy, TX just to go through the car wash at Buc-ee's.

Tks!
Does anyone knows how to find gas stations that have RV lanes?

The only Truck stop brand that usually has RV lanes is Flying J. The Flying J directory list services available at each location. The app is available for cell tor you can print out the complete directory. The only thing I hate is the Propane service and the dump are on the right and my propane tank and wet bay are on the left side of the coach, so i have to turn around and go through the lanes backward from normal traffic to use the propane refill and dump station.

Some Pilot/Flying J locations have gas lanes for RVs. If you download the ap, you can filter for RV lanes to get the ones that offer them.
