I think you need to hang it up and move in the Villages and downgrade to a golf Cart!

When I'm in the deep woods hunting: I carry two compasses.

Just in case one of them is a liar!

What are you hinting about? And why do you have to hint in the deep woods?

But if I "hinted" close to home: the Missus wouldn't pack me such big lunches.

GPS Lies

I used my old Garmin and had good luck ,but it was for cars. I bought a Magellan Roadmate, updated it and left for Tennessee. Part way there it told me to get off highway drive around a small town and get back on highway at same interchange. The next morning it took me down a 2 lane that was next to a highway( the one I should have been on ) and into a residential area. In that area several turns and I ended up in a cul-de-sac. In the rain I had to unhook toad ,get it running ,then maneuver both to another road when I reconnected. As I was changing my clothes A cop showed up and told us we were in a limited area and we had to leave. I backed up GPS and
showed him how we got there . I followed his advice and threw it away.

I rarely use GPS any more because it has gotten me into some tight spots in the past. The driver of the rig in the picture should have his/her license revoked.

I had a AAA edition Magellan Roadmate a few years back that in Northern Virginia would have me get off the interstate at an exit and then have me go straight to get right back on the interstate. Since I bought it from AAA I took it back and filed a complaint about them selling an unsafe GPS system. Would never buy another Magellan POS again.

when a GPS directs you to turn down a dirt road, you know it's lying...

In my humble opinion

In my humble opinion, this has nothing to do with GPS and it's accuracy. This was taken out of context and made to get "click's" from forum users. But it's still funny !!!

That guy must've been trying to jump the tracks to get his motorhome over the 1st rail & into the air like that. What an idiot!!!
A GPS unit is not auto pilot, the driver still has to open their eyes & use the steering wheel & brakes.

I can get lost trying to find the Men's room...
I always have my GPS running...
But I also always try to map things out before I ever fire up the rig...

Bob beat me to it!

I am a retired pilot. Blindly following your GPS/autopilot/nav system is not a smart idea. Before any trip I (gasp!) get out my AAA paper maps and plan my route. I use a yellow highlighter. Then I plan a route on the GPS and save it.

Once on the road remember that plan in the back of your mind. When you're shooting down I-95 and you know you'll be on it for many miles don't just allow the GPS to take an exit when you know it's not time!

That said, I love my Garmin GPS. I love the modern gadgets and love playing with them. Just remember YOU'RE in control, not it!

I'm not necessarily calling you out on this...

That's not always true. I found one of the nicest boondocking spots outside of Selena, UT that was only accessible by dirt.

I was in Bryce Canyon and took the towed out for a ride. Found some BLM land. Dirt road. I had my doubts about the RV, until I went down one roads and saw a 40' Prestige sitting there up on levelers. I thought this was doable.

Granted. Common sense plays a role. Scouting helps. I found a lot potentials that way. I was in full gear one day in Sturgis, SD. Thought I had to see the Buffalo Chip to make the detour off 90 worthwhile. The road got tight. I unhooked and turned the Queen Mary around. Never saw the Chip but got a few T-shirts up the road. It's all good.

To be fair, a GPS knows nothing about road conditions other than bridge clearance. You have to plug your RV dimensions into the GPS if it offers that option to help you with that.

I was in Floyd, VA and somehow wound up on the Blue Ridge Parkway. The GPS tried to correct and navigate the shortest route to my intended destination. It sent me down a dirt road.

Luckily, a Gentlemen stopped me before it was too late and said 'you'll never make it in that. Turn around in that field and go this way'. And I did.

I did it in the toad one day and he was absolutely right. It was tree covered with low hanging branches thick enough to give the air conditioner and shower skylight a good punch.

If it doesn't feel right, it probably isn't.
